Assistant Professor of Architecture
Cal Poly Pomona's Department of Architecture (CPPARC) is seeking a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Architecture to join the faculty in Fall 2027. We are especially interested in candidates committed to advancing the discipline and profession of architecture while actively engaging in and supporting inclusivity within our diverse academic community.
The new faculty member will teach and coordinate architecture core studios (1st, 2nd, or 3rd year), upper-level elective design studios, lecture courses, and elective seminars within the
B.Arch and M.Arch programs. The new faculty member will also contribute to department, college, and university operations through service, and will maintain creative and scholarly activities that inform their teaching.
We are particularly interested in candidates who can lead courses and curriculum that meet the NAAB SC.6 Building Integration requirement. This requirement ensures that students develop the ability to make design decisions within architectural projects while demonstrating integration of building envelope systems and assemblies, structural systems, environmental control systems, life safety systems, and measurable building performance outcomes.
Cal Poly Pomona Architecture is defined by its students. Minimum requirements include:
- Possess an advanced degree in architecture (Master or PhD). The candidate must have completed the advanced degree by the start of the appointment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, staff and faculty from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience teaching architecture design studios at the post-secondary education level.
Preferred/Desired
Qualifications:
- Teach building envelope systems and assemblies, environmental control systems, building performance, and sustainable design practices.
- Coordinate a team-taught design studio and/or student advising.
- Advance academic knowledge and/or practice of architecture through research, scholarship, and/or creative activities.
- Maintain a record of service on university committees, to the discipline of architecture, to professional architectural organizations, and/or to community organizations related to architecture.
And:
- Hold a license to practice architecture in the United States, or be actively pursuing licensure.
- Have at least 2-years of experience teaching architecture design studios at the post-secondary education level.

- Cover letter in which you describe your interest in the position, relevant experience, and how you meet the minimum and preferred qualifications (2-page max)
- Curriculum vitae;
- Teaching Philosophy statement (2-page max) that addresses Cal Poly Pomona's commitment to excellence in education.
- Portfolio providing samples of the candidate's own professional work and academic studio projects showing samples of student work and/or syllabi (20-pages max, formatted on 8.5x11 or A4 size paper saved in pdf format);
- The names and contact information for at least three individuals that can serve as references (for phone/zoom conversations);
- Unofficial transcripts (undergraduate and graduate, official transcripts will be required of finalists)
Finalists for the position will:
- be required to provide official transcripts for highest degree before the on-campus interview;
- be required to provide three letters of reference dated within the last two years;
- Final candidates being interviewed are expected to make a presentation of creative work and a teaching demonstration to faculty and interact with students.
