PositionPart‑time Lecturer positions in the Department of Landscape Architecture. Positions are filled as needed based on student enrollment and funding. Candidates must be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term runs from late August to mid‑December, the Spring term from mid‑January to mid‑May, with possible summer teaching opportunities.
Teaching Responsibilities- Teach assigned division courses in the department’s curriculum.
- Conduct weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
- Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses.
- Landscape design, landscape construction methods, planting design and ecology.
- Computer graphic software (AutoCAD, Adobe CS), modeling/rendering programs (Rhino, Lumion), hand‑drafting and sketching methods.
- Climate mitigation, resilience, and adaptation.
- Ecosystem sciences such as biology, urban ecology, plant science, and horticulture.
- Earth system science and hazard‑resilient design; ecological, hydrological and other civil engineering methods.
- Geospatial technologies such as geo‑AI, machine learning, and environmental sensing.
- Advanced digital design and communication technologies such as AR/VR, digital twins, digital fabrication; interdisciplinary research methods.
- Terminal degree in landscape architecture or a related discipline relevant to the curriculum; and/or
- California PLA licensure with a minimum of 5 years of professional practice experience in one of the specific areas of the curriculum; and/or
- Minimum of 10 years of professional practice experience and recognized expertise in one of the specific areas of the curriculum.
- Ph.D. in landscape architecture or a related discipline.
- Prior teaching experience at the college or university level and ability to provide evidence of strong teaching.
- Research, scholarship, and/or creative activities related to landscape architecture and related fields as described in the position description.
- Expertise in quantitative research, qualitative research, and/or effective integration of both.
Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. Initial appointments are for one semester only. Monthly base salaries are prorated to the number of units worked and are paid in six monthly payments for each full semester.
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $6,221 per month.
Salary ranges for the respective ranks (as of July 2024):
- Lecturer A: $5,507 – $6,677
- Lecturer B: $6,221 – $13,224
- Lecturer C: $6,825 – $14,523
- Lecturer D: $8,593 – $15,211
