ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

SUMMARY: The Department of Sociology at Cal Poly Pomona is seeking a Communications & Outreach Student Assistant to support the development and launch of the new Certified Wellness Coach II (CWC II) Program. The position will run through January 15, 2027, with the opportunity to continue in future semesters based on performance, continued student enrollment status, and availability of grant funding.

The CWC II Program is being developed in conjunction with the department’s forthcoming Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program and will help prepare students for careers supporting California’s behavioral health workforce.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

The Communications & Outreach Student Assistant will work closely with faculty and staff to support advertising, marketing, and outreach for the CWC II Program. Responsibilities may include researching and compiling information for promotional materials; designing and developing flyers, brochures, and other marketing materials; assisting with webpage content and updates; creating social media content; and assisting with the development, filming, and editing of an informational and promotional video about the CWC II Program.

The Student Assistant may also help promote informational sessions and other events, support student recruitment and community outreach efforts, and occasionally travel with faculty or staff to nearby community colleges or other local outreach events. The Student Assistant is expected to work approximately 5 hours per week, with hours varying slightly based on program needs and scheduled events.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Ideal candidates are creative, organized, reliable, detail-oriented, able to work independently, and possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience with Canva, graphic design, social media, photography, videography, video editing, or other content creation tools is preferred but not required.

This is a hybrid position, with much of the work completed remotely; however, the Student Assistant will be required to attend monthly in‑person meetings on the Cal Poly Pomona campus and may occasionally attend program outreach and promotional events on campus or at nearby community colleges. Additional in‑person meetings or activities may be required periodically based on program needs.

This position is an excellent opportunity for students interested in marketing, advertising, communications, graphic design, or related fields to gain hands‑on professional experience developing communications and materials for a new academic program. Students interested in social work, behavioral health, higher education, or program development may also find the position valuable.
