The university is noted for its scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, which was once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W.K.Kellogg. The College of Environmental Design (ENV) at Cal Poly Pomona connects people, places, and the environments in which we live,work, and play. A leader in design excellence, ENV offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban and regional planning; undergraduatedegrees in art history and visual communication design; and agraduate degree in regenerative studies. ENV also manages the University's two professional galleries, the W.
Keith & Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery and the Don
B. Huntley Gallery, and stewards the Neutra VDL House, a designated National Historic Landmark. Drawing on the rich creative economy and cultural capitalof Southern California, ENV prepares students to shape the futureof the built and natural environments with resiliency, inclusivity,and justice.
The Department of Art at Cal Poly Pomona is home to two distinctiveprograms within the College of Environmental Design:
Art History and Visual Communication Design. Situated within a polytechnicuniversity, we challenge students to engage the environmental,social, and ethical issues of today's world through art and itshistories. The Art History program holds the distinction of beingthe only program to offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art Historyin the California State University system in Southern California.
Our faculty are dedicated scholars committed to diversity, equity,and inclusion, and we take pride in creating a supportive,intellectually rigorous environment where students develop skillsin visual analysis, critical thinking, and scholarly researchacross global art from antiquity to the present.
The temporary faculty pool is continuously open, and positions arefilled as needed, based on student enrollment and funding.
Candidates may need to be available to begin teaching on short notice. The Fall term begins in late August and ends inmid-December; the Spring term begins mid-January and ends inmid-May. Opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions mayalso be available. We welcome applications from individuals who are experienced and student-centered to teach in the following subject areas:
- Survey courses in World Art History (Prehistoric throughMedieval; Renaissance through Modern), Contemporary Art, Modern Art, Medieval Art, Asian Art History (including Japanese Art andArt and Architecture of India), Latin American Art, African Art,and other topics in global visual culture and art criticism
Teach assigned division courses in the department's curriculum andserve weekly office hours based on assigned teaching unit load.
Assignments may include day, evening, and/or weekend courses.
- A Master's degree in Art History or related discipline in thefield relevant to the curriculum or related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate-level Art Historycourses effectively.
