Overview
The R&D Lab Test Engineer provides the opportunity to support the development of new products and processes for orthodontics. The individual in this role will interface with employees at all levels across various departments, including R&D, Operations, Quality, Product Management, PMO, Regulatory Affairs, and Procurement.
Responsibilities- Lead engineering test and analysis activities supporting new product development, sustaining engineering, RA/QA, and general operations.
- Develop, validate, refine, and execute test methods, protocols, procedures, and validation documentation.
- Prepare test samples and perform testing using a wide range of laboratory test equipment.
- Collect, document, analyze, and manage experimental data in accordance with specified requirements.
- Deliver accurate and timely data summaries, technical interpretations, and comprehensive test reports.
- Conduct troubleshooting and root-cause analyses for test failures and unexpected results.
- Provide technical evaluation of new test requirements and methods, offering recommendations to project teams.
- Recommend improvements to test methods, fixtures, laboratory workflows, and overall best practices.
- Maintain, organize, and ensure proper functioning of laboratory equipment, tools, and storage areas.
- Ensure laboratory spaces meet safety, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance standards.
- Manage inventory of chemicals, consumables, products, and laboratory supplies.
- Execute strong laboratory housekeeping practices and ensure a safe working environment.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development, regulatory submissions, and project objectives.
- Participate in technical and core team meetings, providing updates and technical insights as needed.
- Perform additional related duties and assignments to support laboratory and engineering operations.
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3 years of testing experience in an R&D environment.
- Experience in medical device, biotech, pharma or similar
- Demonstrated experience operating an Instron testing system or other mechanical testers and the software.
- Strong understanding of GLP (Good Laboratory Practices) and GDP (Good Documentation Practices).
- Proficiency with MS Office applications, particularly Excel and Word.
- 5+ years of experience in an R&D environment.
- Experience in orthodontic and/or dental research.
- Strong data analysis skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
- Experience using Minitab for statistical analysis.
- Excellent written, verbal, computer, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to go the extra mile.
Target Market Salary Range
Actual compensation packages take into account a wide range of factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to geographic location; skill sets; relevant education and certifications; depth of experience; performance; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed reasonable estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
At Envista, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The total compensation package for this position may also include an annual performance bonus, medical/dental/vision benefits, 401K match, and/or other applicable compensation plans.
