Position: Senior Engineer 1, Substation Project Development

In this job, you’ll be part of the Substation Project Development team responsible for sponsoring substation utility projects and leading different aspects of technical and engineering efforts such as developing scope, schedule and costs, while looking for synergies and opportunities for project cross‑cutting to maximize value.

Coordinating and performing technical analyses for distribution, subtransmission, and transmission‑level substation projects, you’ll drive multiple aspects during licensing and construction to streamline and optimize SCE resources. As a Senior Engineer 1, Substation Project Development

Responsibilities
  • Oversee engineers performing diagnostics, monitoring and inspecting equipment, and reviewing grid technologies, building relationships to facilitate cross‑functional knowledge transfer of related work groups.
  • Lead the preparation of technical reports, presentations, and other documentation to communicate project status, findings, and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Collaborate and lead with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless development, integration and implementation of future technologies and asset performance management strategies.
  • Assist in a variety of engineering and business initiatives and grid strategies, including development of innovative procedures and design recommendations.
  • Provide support for new equipment installation and startup, then lead the handover processes to the ramp and sustaining phases.
  • Lead junior engineers in investigation of threats on the distribution system infrastructure based on observations and findings.
  • Gather and correlate basic data using engineering studies and procedures, which may include routine and diagnostic testing of components and systems.
  • Facilitate training and professional development opportunities for engineering team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Ensure protection of the company’s physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly access and manage private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Seven or more years of experience in engineering within operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical presentations to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Experience collaborating with regional transmission organizations (e.g. CAISO) and regulatory agencies (e.g. FERC, NERC).
  • Experience supporting the development of testimony for regulatory proceedings and environmental licensing.
  • Engineering experience related to modeling and performing power‑system analyses on the SCE grid (e.g. 4 kV up to 500 kV).
  • Experience in the utility industry, focusing on distribution, subtransmission and transmission planning, grid interconnection, power system infrastructure related to substations and/or design of those facilities.
  • Experience in project management, including strategic planning, budgeting, and execution of large‑scale projects.
Additional Information
  • The position’s work mode is hybrid. Employees will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Employees are required to work and reside in California unless otherwise noted.
  • Position may require up to 5 % traveling and field work throughout the SCE service territory.
  • The primary work location is Pomona, CA (PIV1). The successful candidate may also be asked to work for an extended period at an alternate location.
