Microgrid Integration, Engineer 2
In this role you will contribute to cutting‑edge Microgrid and Grid Management System integration and demonstrations. Your work will play a key role in advancing Southern California Edison’s Pathway 2045 vision—delivering scalable, standards‑based technology solutions that support a clean, affordable, and reliable grid across our infrastructure.
Responsibilities- Performs inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/troubleshooting, and overall improvements.
- Ensures system event assessments and root cause analysis are performed for equipment failures and implements corrective actions, confirming proper mitigation plans are in place.
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
- Conducts independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Performs power system modeling and analyses utilizing software tools and applications; stays informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology.
- Ensures day‑to‑day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards including HSE and GMP quality and environmental and reliability standards.
- Helps ensure infrastructure’s supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle.
- Develops the engineering facility design, including electrical system design such as sizing, creating one‑line diagrams, and selecting equipment.
- Assists in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system functionality and quality of service to customers.
- Acts as project sponsor with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions requiring project modification to move projects through their lifecycle.
- Ensures protection of physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accesses and manages private customer data in accordance with highest standards of conduct and integrity.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or in a scientific/technical/math field.
- Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
- Valid Class C Driver’s License.
- Experience supporting engineering design and integration of microgrid controller systems with Grid Management Systems such as ADMS and DERMS platforms.
- Experience developing control system logic using energy storage, solar and generators including operation and maintenance displays, optimization and fail safety.
- Strong understanding of DERMS and DER communications/protocols (2030.5, DNP3, Modbus, etc).
- Strong understanding and technical capability to deliver advanced technology demonstration projects from concept to field deployment.
- Familiarity with IEEE 2030.5 CSIP, SCE Rule 21, UL 3141 and inverter‑based resource management.
- Experience executing projects focused on the customer through design thinking, incorporating feedback and building agreement among stakeholders to maximize project success and technology transfer.
- Knowledge of modeling power systems, especially using PSCAD and RTDS.
- Experience working hands‑on in lab environments for instrumentation, testing and validation of energy storage, generators, microgrids or similar systems.
- Experience supporting or leading field deployments and construction of energy storage, generation or microgrid systems.
- Excellent communication and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Work mode is hybrid. Employees will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on remaining days. Employees are required to live in California unless otherwise noted. Further details will be discussed at interview stage.
