Cal Poly Pomona invites applications for a tenure‑track assistant professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering. The position begins in Fall 2027.
Responsibilities- Teach lower‑division, upper‑division, and graduate courses in aerospace engineering, including aircraft and spacecraft design, systems engineering, and other design‑oriented areas.
- Support the department’s senior‑design sequence and project‑based learning activities.
- Develop new curriculum and learning experiences in aerospace design and systems engineering.
- Establish an active scholarly program, pursue external funding, and publish peer‑reviewed research.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and participate in department, college, and university service.
- Minimum required qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering or a closely aligned field, conferred before start date.
- Preferred/desired qualifications:
- Academic experience or strength in Aerospace Design and Systems Engineering, with particular interest in aircraft design, complex aerospace systems, systems engineering, and model‑based systems engineering (MBSE).
- Demonstrated ability or potential for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses and developing design‑oriented curriculum.
- Demonstrated ability or potential for authoring peer‑reviewed publications, securing external funding, and mentoring student research.
- Industrial, government, or professional experience in aerospace engineering, aircraft design, systems engineering, or related areas.
- A bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program.
- Cover letter describing interest, experience, and how you meet qualifications.
- Teaching philosophy statement (2‑page max).
- Research statement (2‑page max).
- Names and contact information for at least three references.
- Unofficial transcripts (official transcripts required for finalists).
- Brief statement or table identifying courses prepared to teach with minimal preparation, courses coverable with additional preparation, and new courses of interest.
- For finalists: official transcripts, three reference letters, and a presentation of scholarly work and a teaching demonstration.
