Description
Pomona Catholic School (PC) is seeking an energetic, organized and team-oriented individual to lead its Development operation. Pomona Catholic, founded in 1898, is a co-ed 6-8 middle school and all-girls’ high school in the tradition of the Felician Sisters and the oldest school in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. The successful candidate will work directly with the school Principal and PC leadership to attract philanthropic support to the school and create a strong platform for engagement of graduates, parents, grandparents, and friends.
Job DescriptionThe Director of Development provides leadership and management in the direction, planning, and execution of fundraising and related activities for the school. Beyond that, he/she will help to create and inspire a culture of philanthropy within the community – allowing all involved to understand the important role philanthropy plays in the Pomona Catholic of today and tomorrow.
ResponsibilitiesThis will include, but is not limited to, annual and major gift fundraising, foundation relations (proposal creation and compliance in grant use), fundraising event management and execution, serving as a liaison to the principal and board for development efforts and supervising development staff and volunteers in the development operation.
Duties Include- Planning and strategy:
Develop and implement a written annual plan and calendar for the development operation in alignment with the school’s strategic plan or direction. - Set and achieve an evidence-based annual goal for unrestricted support, financial assistance, special events, and special projects as identified by the school.
- Collaborate with the principal to create a long‑term vision for philanthropy at Pomona Catholic and work annually to ensure that steps are being taken to move the program towards that vision.
- Create and implement a system to identify, cultivate, solicit, steward, maintain and upgrade annual giving donors.
- Plan, develop and execute strategies for obtaining major gifts; identify, cultivate and solicit prospects (individuals, corporations and foundations).
- Support and direct the principal as primary spokesperson for the school; strategize and manage her prospect portfolio.
- Identify and utilize resources including volunteers, faculty, staff, publications and social media to foster relationships with major gift prospects.
- Provide leadership for relationship‑building with a variety of constituencies; work with volunteers and others to identify ability and interest of major gift prospects; assist academic and athletic leadership to identify sources and prepare proposals to government, corporations, foundations, and private granting agencies.
- Oversee, manage and/or plan fundraising events and an annual Giving Week.
- Provide stewardship in recognition of philanthropy.
- Promote planned giving as a way of supporting PC and establish a planned giving program.
- Provide leadership and guidance for Pomona Catholic staff and volunteers involved in fundraising.
- Support communication and activities that encourage relationships between the school and its external constituents, such as alumni, parents, donors, and friends which support private giving to the school.
- Implement and coordinate tasks in maintaining electronic and paper records of donors and grants. Maintain security and quality controls. Generate queries, reports, exports and any other collection data as needed.
- Plan and administer the unit’s annual operating budget.
Directly support the principal in managing a portfolio of key relationships and interacting with donor constituencies. Liaise with other public‑facing members of the PC staff to encourage understanding of and participation in philanthropy. Coordinate annual budget process with Business Manager.
