ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY SUMMARYThe research assistant will assist the Principal Investigator and work with other research associates to conduct rocky intertidal monitoring. This is an as-needed, 0-25 hour per week, non-benefited, non-exempt position for graduate students currently in the Smith lab ($20.00 per hour).
SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety)The research associate will assist in all aspects of the projects, including, but not limited to: field research at rocky intertidal locations mostly from Los Angeles to San Diego (but may include locations throughout California); data entry; field work preparation and packing; data quality and assessment; analyzing data; writing reports; other logistics, adhere to the work schedule, and perform other duties as assigned.
Hours will be available as needed and will vary from 0-25 hours per week, depending on the field schedule and work to be completed.
Must be a current or upcoming graduate student in PI Dr. Jayson Smith’s lab and currently working with the PI Smith on ongoing projects.
Must be physically able to access and work in rocky intertidal locations, which includes hiking long distances over unstable rocks and hiking down steep cliff sides while carrying field gear.
Must have previously volunteered or worked with PI Smith at Cal Poly Pomona.
Preference will be given to candidates with familiarity and experience using MARINe protocols; ability to identify seaweeds and invertebrates that inhabit rocky intertidal habitats; experience with data entry and analyses; and ability to communicate and work with other research associates from other organizations.
