Job SummaryUnder the general supervision of the Director of Campus Safety, the Campus Safety Officer performs a wide variety of campus security and public services to ensure the safety of persons, protect property of various kinds, maintain order and enforce the rules and regulations governing students, faculty, and staff with superior customer service and integrity. This is a non‑sworn, unarmed position.

- Any combination equivalent to graduation from high school or GED and one year experience in security and/or in the law‑enforcement field.
- Must satisfactorily pass a background investigation.
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a clean driving record.
- Possession of a California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) Guard Certification.
- Provide mobile security patrol on campus by foot, bicycle, motorized cart, or vehicle.
- Assist with public services, including protection of campus buildings and property and guarding against fire, intrusion, theft, and vandalism.
- Remain attentive to potential safety and security risks such as unsecured doors, insufficient lighting, tripping hazards, evidence of criminal activity, graffiti, and burglaries.
- Maintain fixed security assignments at entry points and visible outdoor locations.
- Provide information and directions to students and visitors.
- Ensure that no unauthorized visitors enter buildings and that all authorized visitors sign in and out on the check‑in sheets.
- Notify supervisors of suspected illegal or suspicious activity.
- Observe and report unsafe conditions and/or occurrences.
- Make written and oral reports describing hazardous conditions affecting the campus community.
- Prepare a Daily Field Activity report of security assignments and incidents.
- Write non‑police incident reports or complaints from students, visitors, faculty, and staff.
- Check the physical security of buildings (doors, windows, alarms) and conduct routine rounds to ensure they remain secure.
- Escort personnel into buildings after hours or when lacking keys, after verifying authenticity of requests.
- Take custody of found, lost, or abandoned property and attempt to locate owners to return the property.
- Package and store any unreturned property properly.
- Serve in the Security Operations Center monitoring surveillance cameras and dispatching personnel.
- Assist with parking control by issuing permits or enforcing violations.
- Assist special events such as commencement.
- Participate in meetings, take notes, and follow up on actions.
