Jacobs is seeking a Civil Engineering Intern (Traffic) to join our Transportation team in Pompano Beach or Orlando in Summer 2026 working on projects that bring innovative solutions to our clients  challenges locally and worldwide. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and be involved in a variety of engineering tasks for our Florida Turnpike Enterprise (FTE) clients; aimed at improving traffic flow, safety, and infrastructure.

In this position you will work with a multidisciplinary team taking on a variety of tasks that blend your theoretical knowledge with practical application. Under the guidance of professional engineers, architects and other senior technical staff you will work on a variety of transportation and traffic engineering projects related to traffic operations, safety analysis, corridor studies, traffic simulation modeling, signal timing & operations, and traffic design (signals, signs, pavement markings, illumination, ITS, etc.).

Work will be performed utilizing Big Data, with traffic engineering software including SYNCHRO, Vissim, Highway Capacity Software (HCS) as well as traffic design software like Open Roads and SignCAD.

Your Responsibilities May Include
  • Support highway, roadway, and traffic engineering projects through CAD design, calculations, and technical documentation
  • Assist with traffic analysis and studies (e.g., forecasting, safety, simulation, impact, and signal warrant studies)
  • Support traffic signal operations and design, including timing optimization, clearance calculations, and data entry
  • Collaborate with project engineers, project managers, and transportation agencies on safety, operations, and infrastructure improvements
  • Use engineering and traffic software (e.g., Open Roads, Guide Sign, Synchro) and standard office tools
  • Participate in design reviews, research codes and design options, and assist with cost estimating as experience allows
Minimum Qualifications
  • In pursuit of a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited institution
  • Completed coursework related to transportation engineering or highway/roadway design
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3.0 GPA
  • At least a rising Junior
  • Familiarity with CAD software, such as Micro Station and AutoCAD
  • A previous internship related to your field of study
  • Authorization to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship, now or in the future
  • Knowledge of and experience using CADD/Design software (preferably Microstation/Open Roads/AutoCADD)
Compensation and Benefits

The base salary range for this position is $40,000.00 to $60,000.00; though will be paid hourly based on hours worked. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
