The Universal Banker serves as a full-service, single point of contact for South State customers’ financial needs, fulfilling dual roles as a Teller and a Front‑End Service Representative (FSR). The position attracts, expands, and retains customer relationships while contributing to the bank’s financial growth.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Serve customers quickly, accurately, efficiently, and confidentially in accordance with South State Bank Service Standards.
- Understand the bank’s products and services, including facts, benefits, rules, regulations, and pricing.
- Identify customer needs by listening for clues and seek opportunities to expand relationships through referrals.
- Present a neat and professional appearance in accordance with bank policy.
- Ensure compliance with all banking regulations, including Regulation CC and the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Develop strong knowledge of customer‑facing technology and enroll customers in self‑service options.
- Process transactions for savings, checking, and loan accounts.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work area.
- Assist in guiding and training new tellers.
- Allow customers access to safe deposit boxes.
- Cash checks and process savings withdrawals within assigned limits and prescribed procedures.
- Sell certified checks.
- Balance transactions daily.
- Service/balance ATM as needed.
- Utilize the branch capture system.
- Follow policies and procedures to minimize operational errors and maintain proper workflow.
- Follow branch security and audit procedures and understand the operation of security devices.
- Open new deposit accounts and understand the bank’s product and financial service offerings.
- Handle stop payments, wire transfers, and other maintenance functions within assigned limits.
- Explain policies and procedures to customers, considering their unfamiliarity.
- Resolve customer problems and complaints courteously and discreetly, directing difficult issues to appropriate sources.
- View problems and complaints as opportunities to satisfy the customer and promote additional services.
- Show sincere appreciation for each customer’s time and business.
- Provide a business card if not already given.
- Ensure branch records, reports, and correspondence resulting from customer development attempts are correct, timely, and properly distributed.
- Follow branch security and audit procedures and understand the operation of security devices.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- One year of teller or cash‑handling experience.
- Six months of customer relationship building or sales experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in the Teller II and basic FSR job functions.
- Good interpersonal and computer skills.
- Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
- Previous banking experience preferred.

- Additional training may be required depending on experience.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand and/or sit for long periods of time. Must be able to effectively access and interpret information on computer screens, documents, reports, and cash denominations.
WORK ENVIRONMENTThe role is located in an open lobby area with an individual workstation, inside a climate‑controlled facility.
TRAVELTravel may be required.
