Performs a wide variety of police and law enforcement activities specifically related to the school environment during the school year. Tasks are primarily service-oriented and include working with and mentoring students, disseminating information, arbitrating disputes, and providing assistance through referrals, property protection, crime prevention, investigative, and other public safety services.
The selected candidate must have successfully completed the basic recruit training at a certified Police Academy and possess a current certification from the State of Florida as a Law Enforcement Officer as described under Chapter 943, Florida Statutes (F.S.).
Job Requirements:
A criminal history check, including FCIC/NCIC, and a driving record check shall be conducted for all applicants as part of the application process. Any applicant who does not meet Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission (CJSTC) requirements or City of Coconut Creek Police Department standards shall not be eligible for further consideration.
Retention Bonus:
In December each year, the SRO shall receive a retention bonus in the amount of Four Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($4,500.00) in appreciation and anticipation of continued service for the duration of that school year (prorated for those who are not employed the full school year). In the event the SRO voluntarily separates from the City or is terminated for cause prior to the end of the school year, the SRO shall reimburse the retention bonus on a prorated basis for the number of months not worked.

School Days:
Monday - Friday: 7:00 a.m.
- 3:00 p.m., possibly 8:30 a.m.
- 4:30 p.m., depending on the assigned school, not including Teacher Planning, Holidays, and Summer.
