Position: Certified Medical Assistant - Bilingual English - Spanish (60899)

Overview

Clinical Care Assistant I (60899) role at Sanitas Medical Centers. This entry-level medical assisting position offers on-the-job training with potential to advance to a higher-level role once certifications are attained. The position may require some nights and weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with daily patient flow in areas as needed.
  • Provide direct patient care and perform indirect patient care activities and laboratory tests, under the direction of a physician or nurse.
  • Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information on patient charts.
  • Greet and escort patients to the examination room. Adhere to HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Assist providers in assessing a comprehensive and accurate picture of the patient's health, facilitating informed decision-making and high-quality patient care.
  • Perform supervised procedures such as EKGs, vaccines, and medications via IM/SC//Oral routes and assist in procedures or treatments as requested by the physician.
  • Perform supervised laboratory work as signed off by a nurse or physician per orders and prepare instrumental equipment for sterilization.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and procedures, such as phlebotomy and venipuncture for specimen collection.
  • Adhere to Nursing Department policies and procedures.
  • Process and handle tubes and specimens according to laboratory protocols.
  • Check equipment and supplies prior to use for function, inspection, and expiration date.
  • Maintain quality control and cleaning logs as needed for the department. Report malfunctions of medical equipment and safety issues to the supervisor.
  • Comply with Infection Control and OSHA regulations (handling and disposal of biomedical waste).
  • Direct patients to appropriate departments for continuum of care and help patients understand available services to optimize care and experience.
  • Complete Pre-visit planning prior to the patient’s visit, within 72 hours.
  • Review pertinent records (labs, DI, referrals) and perform a complete intake of a patient’s visit to prepare for the appointment.
  • Process referrals completely and timely; follow up to resolve outstanding requests. Advise patients about MySanitas app to view referral options.
  • Review and resolve telephone encounters within policy timelines, including follow-up with patients as needed.
  • Handle and process specimens including blood, urine, and other bodily fluids with proper collection, labeling, storage, and transport techniques.
  • Maintain Quality Controls by performing QC tests and keeping QC records.
  • Possible job function in Tennessee or New Jersey – pediatric care: administer care to pediatric patients, including pediatric vaccinations where applicable.
Required Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a medical assistant training program.
  • Medical Assistant Diploma from a College/University/Technical School or be enrolled in Sanitas MA Apprenticeship Program or a healthcare field diploma (Certified Nurse Assistant, Patient Technician) with 1+ year’s experience in lieu of MA diploma.
Required Experience
  • One (1) year of Medical Assistant, CNA, patient technician, or Home Health Aide experience.
Required Licenses and Certifications
  • BLS certification
  • Medical Assistant certification
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Proficient in medical terminology.
  • Any combination of education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties and responsibilities described.
  • The position will require some nights and weekends.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in electronic medical records systems (eCW preferred), Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience working in a medical office setting.
  • Phlebotomy certification.
  • Experience in Pediatric care and knowledge of pediatric terminology; preferred experience administering care to pediatric patients.
