Behavioral Health Clinician (BARC Admissions)

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the Behavioral Health Clinician (BARC Admissions) position with the Human Services Department - Broward Addiction Recovery Center.

The Human Services Department is seeking a compassionate and skilled Clinical Support Specialist to provide comprehensive client-centered services across hospital, community, and crisis-response settings. This role is vital in ensuring individuals and families receive timely, coordinated, and trauma-informed support throughout their treatment and recovery journey. The Clinical Support Specialist conducts clinical screenings, interviews, and biopsychosocial evaluations; facilitates individual and group counseling sessions;

develops treatment plans; and maintains accurate, confidential documentation using electronic systems. The position coordinates care with community partners, service providers, law enforcement, and governmental agencies to ensure continuity of services. Additional responsibilities include completing home and community visits, responding to after-hours hotline calls, providing advocacy during sensitive examinations, supporting crisis intakes, and linking families to essential community resources such as housing, childcare, and food assistance.

The specialist also assists clients with completing applications, prepares clear and timely reports, participates in staff meetings and training, and supports special projects as assigned. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, excellent communication skills, and a deep commitment to serving individuals facing substance use, trauma, and co-occurring challenges. This is a grant funded position with a salary range of $65,401.26 to $82,000. This position schedule is as follows:
Sunday through Thursday from 9:00AM to 5:30PM.

Minimum

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Requires a Master's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in social work, gerontology, psychology, or closely related field. Requires one (1) year of social services casework, counseling or closely related field. Depending on the area of assignment, six (6) months of clinical case management may also be required.

Special Requirements:

  • Depending upon area of assignment, may be required to work nights/weekends/holidays.

Special Certifications and Licenses:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.

Preferences:

  • Doctoral Degree in social work, gerontology, psychology, counseling or closely related field (Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Counseling, Counseling Education).
  • Master's Certified Addiction Professional (MCAP), Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) or Other Qualified Professional through the Florida Certification Board
  • Licensed professional (LCSW, LMFT, LMHC)
  • 1+ year performing as a Qualified Supervisor as approved by the Florida Department of Health (requiring periodic re-certification)
  • Bilingual

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct clinical screenings, interviews, bio-psychosocial assessments, ASAM assessments, and treatment reviews in accordance with program, licensing, and regulatory requirements.
  • Responds to client crises; conducts risk assessments (suicidal, homicidal, and substance-use risk); and develops crisis and safety plans as needed.
  • Provides individual and group counseling, including intermediate and advanced sessions addressing substance abuse, co-occurring disorders, and complex client issues.
  • Develops and updates treatment plans with participants and/or their families; confers with clients, caregivers, and family members regarding treatment needs.
  • Conducts home and community visits to deliver counseling, follow-up care, and support services to participants and families.
  • Observes, evaluates, monitors, reports, and documents client status and progress using paper and electronic health record systems. Maintains timely, accurate, and clinically compliant documentation in accordance with agency policy, Medicaid/insurance requirements, HIPAA, and 42 CFR Part 2.
  • Coordinates treatment and continuity of care with internal and external providers, including medical and psychiatric professionals, probation/parole, case managers, and community agencies.
  • Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings, case consultations, clinical staffing, and Performance Improvement Committee meetings to support quality and continuity of care.
