Position: Registered Nurse (BARC Residential - 2 pm-12 am)

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Registered Nurse with the Broward Addiction Recovery Center (BARC).

Eleven (11) paid holidays each year

Vacation (Paid Time Off) = 2 weeks per year

Schedule:

Four (4) days per week from 2:00 pm - 12:00 am with variable work days (4/10 Schedule - 40 hours per week).

Delivers medical and nursing care to the residents of Broward County by assessment and evaluation of their medical psychological and emotional needs. Works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Requires an Associate degree from an accredited school of nursing, or specialized higher level course work equivalent to two (2) years of college in nursing.

Special Requirements May be required to work nights/weekends/holidays.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required Licensed as a registered nurse in the State of Florida and current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification at time of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver's License for duration of appointment.

Preferences
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in a related field
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - Nursing Specialty Certification (i.e. Psych, Chemical Dependency, Addiction Counseling, Medical Surgical, Critical Care) - One (1) year or more Nursing Leadership/Management experience (DON, Nurse Manager, Nurse Supervisor, Clinical Lead) - One (1) or more years of experience working in the community with the homeless
- One (1) or more years experience of Trauma Informed Care
- Bilingual

Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans; performs physical examinations, makes tentative diagnoses, and treats patients in triage; records patients' medical information and vital signs.

Directs and supervises nursing and health care personnel, or supervises a particular unit on one shift; oversees administration of medication from LPN (licensed practical nurse) to patients; maintains, organizes and issues medical supplies; attends staff, discharge planning, case conference and other meetings as needed.

Serves as liaison to psychiatric care providers; coordinates all psychiatric care including psychiatric doctor appointment scheduling, making rounds with the doctor as needed; receives, transcribes and carries out all psychiatric orders; monitors patients for effectiveness of orders.

Admits and discharges patients; assesses medical, mental, and safety status of patients; collects funds; takes pictures for admission; stores patient valuables; prepares clients in clothing to enter unit; searches for contraband.

Cosigns and supervises all orders written by medical director; answers phones, documents medical information within computer and patient charts; calls agencies for staffing on weekends and holidays, when supervisors are off.

Maintains safe environment within facility, nursing unit and patient areas.

Provides information to doctors, counselors, dietary staff, and continued care with outside agencies, 911, Department of Health, or the court system.

Refers patients to different agencies if criteria cannot not be met at facility, sometimes involving urgent medical care needs or mental health issues or police assistance for potentially violent patients.

Obtains report from the previous shift on the status of each patient on the unit; keeps a record of any changes affecting patients and report those changes to the oncoming shift; maintains a running tally of admissions and discharges for the shift.
