Quality Engineering
Creates or obtains ammunition samples and tests them for compliance to process and/or industry standards or R&D specifications. Maintains written documentation of test results and provides timely feedback to supervisors, technicians and R& D personnel as required. Applies working knowledge to operate and perform routine maintenance on various electronic ballistics measuring and firing safety devices and their peripheral equipment, under the guidance of senior technician.
Provides operations and preventative maintenance on ballistics scoring and measuring systems. Performs other duties as required to complete the assigned mission.
- R&D Support:
- 1. Test samples per direction provided by Engineering Work Requests. Engage engineers for any clarification on testing requested.
- a. Testing includes ballistic only
- 2. Knowledge/Understanding/Ability to learn and apply the following standards:
- a. NIJ 0101.04/05 Interim
- b. NIJ 0101.06
- c. NIJ 0108.01
- d. NIJ 0115.00
- e. HOSBD 2017 CAST
- f. FBI protocol
- g. DEA
- i. US Military Standards
- 3. Ability to ballistically test the following protective products:
- a. Soft Body Armor
- c. Hard Body Armor
- d. Shields
- Quality Support:
- 4. Lot testing of commercial soft armor raw materials per SOP. Prioritize time sensitive raw materials as required.
- 5. End item testing for Military contracts per SOP.
- 6. Lot testing of helmet shells per SOP.
- General Ballistic Range Duties:
- 7. Loading of small arms ammunition with appropriate velocity control
- 8. Marking targets for appropriate shot locations per applicable standard
- 9. Ability to operate/troubleshoot all in range equipment: receiver, barrels, velocity screens, test fixtures, and clay calibration oven.
- 10. Ensure clay is calibrated properly via drops, pack clay prior to testing as required
- 11. Proficient at data acquisition software (Dubam)
- 12. Populate accurate ballistic data sheets
- 13. Assist with live gun demonstration
- Associates degree or 2-5 years in technical support role
- High standard of quality and efficiency
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Basic PC knowledge (MS Outlook, Excel, Word)
- Must be able to work in a physical capacity, lifting and moving heavy objects and stand for long durations
- Detail oriented with analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software programs such as Word and Excel.
- Must read, write, speak and understand English.
- Regular and predictable attendance is an essential function for this position.
- Must be a US persons per ITAR.
- Requires sitting for a prolonged period of time.
- Requires dexterity and coordination to handle files, boxes and materials with occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. unassisted.
- Requires minimum reaching for items above and below desk level.
- Requires strength, coordination and vision to use keyboard and video display terminal for prolonged periods.
