Outside Sales Rep

Position Overview

As an Outside Sales Rep – Trench Safety at United Rentals, you will be the customer’s go‑to for underground trench safety equipment rental and supplies. Customers include contract companies and non‑building, industrial and commercial building contractors. The role focuses on maximizing revenue, building relationships, demonstrating products, and ensuring safety compliance.

• Maximize revenue from facilities and construction sites in a defined geographical territory.
• Maintain and develop relationships with existing customers and their subsidiary companies, acting as a single point of contact.
• Demonstrate and train customers on available trench safety products.
• Call potential customers to set up demonstrations and on‑site visits.
• Prepare sales action plans and strategies.
• Collaborate with general rentals representatives to promote cross‑selling opportunities.
• Instruct Competent Person and Confined Space Training classes.
• Install equipment and work with personnel who are installing equipment as necessary.
• Utilize  and other CRM tools to develop a pipeline of opportunities.
• Complete other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of experience and education preferred.
• Three years of sales experience.
• Strong planning, problem‑solving, organizational, communication, and negotiation skills.
• Diligent attention to safety.
• Certification in Competent Person Training and Confined Space Training.
• Knowledge of construction, trench safety or related equipment preferred; candidates with comparable industry experience and strong sales acumen will be considered.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.

This role includes a base salary and monthly commissions based on performance. A minimum monthly guarantee incentive is provided during the onboarding and learning process. The position is deemed safety sensitive for United Rentals’ policies and procedures.
