General Description:

Employee must be able to operate light and medium duty equipment for extended periods of time including but not limited to Zero Turn Mowers, Bat Wing Mowers, Tractor with bucket and bush hog, Skid Steer Loader with various attachments, hand tools, power tools, and small engine equipment.

The purpose of this class within the organization is to perform skilled work in the operation of large vehicles and equipment. This class works under close to general supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks.

Minimum

Education and Experience Requirements:

Requires one (1) year operating heavy equipment related to area of assignment or closely related experience. Special Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver's License for duration of appointment. Must be able to work a flexible schedule that might include mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Preferences:
Heavy Equipment Operations Technician Certification or similar field 2+ years experience operating Commercial Lawn Maintenance Equipment Ability to speak foreign language(s) (Spanish, French/Creole)

Additional Information:
All candidates must complete an extensive ten (10) year work history verification and criminal background check which includes post-offer physical examination, clearing of DCF's Affidavit of Good Moral Character and drug testing. Ability to maintain authorization to operate a county vehicle/equipment.

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.

• Transports construction equipment using a lowbed semi-trailer; operates tractor-trailer and tandem trucks in local hauling tasks; loads and unloads vehicles as required; operates heavy duty road roller in resurfacing and roadway construction; operates front-end loader or small tractor rigged with hydraulic loading lift and back hoe digging shovel; operates tractor and "bush hog" for mowing roadway shoulders and removing vegetation from drainage ditches;
  
  operates sweeper truck for cleaning roadways; may operate smaller earth moving equipment such as small bulldozers and bobcats.
• Performs operator pre-checks on equipment; checks lubricants, cooling systems, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems; makes necessary minor adjustments and reports malfunctions to supervisor.
• Performs related work as assigned.
