Mission

The Mission of the Poncan Theatre Company, Inc. is to entertain, educate, & inspire our community and beyond while preserving the history & continuing the legacy of the Poncan Theatre.

Vision

While preserving the historic 1927 theatre as a community landmark, the Poncan Theatre desires to educate young artists through the Evans Children’s Academy of Performing Arts and provide the community with live shows, cinema, and special events.

Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity to provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and financial stewardship for the Poncan Theatre while preserving its architectural and historical significance and continuing to grow it as a vibrant center for the arts and community in Ponca City.

Engagement

Poncan Theatre is engaging a contractor to serve as Executive Director in a contracted capacity. The Contractor will oversee day‑to‑day operations, advance the Poncan Theatre’s mission and community impact, and support the long‑term health and growth of the organization in alignment with the Mission and Vision of the Poncan Theatre. This is an independent contractor relationship. Nothing in this Agreement is intended to create an employer‑employee relationship.

Responsibilities

The Contractor will be responsible for general oversight and execution of the Theatre’s operations, including the following:

  • Operations & Programming
    Coordinate and oversee movies, Evans Children’s Academy productions, concerts, rentals, and special events.
    Oversee daily operations of the Poncan Theatre, including front‑of‑house and back‑of‑house staff, contractors, and volunteers.
    Ensure the box office, concessions, and guest experience operate smoothly.
    Ensure events are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations.
    Maintain clear systems for scheduling, communication, and event execution.
    Lead event booking, programming strategy, and audience development efforts to maximize attendance and revenue.
    Cultivate relationships with promoters, artists, agents, community partners, and renters.
  • Financial Oversight
    Work alongside the Treasurer to develop and manage the annual operating budget.
    Monitor revenue, expenses, and overall financial performance.
    Track and grow revenue streams including ticket sales, concessions, rentals, sponsor ships, donations, grants, and fundraising initiatives.
    Provide regular updates to the Board on financial performance.
    Assist with fundraising efforts, including sponsor ships, donor outreach, annual campaigns, and grant opportunities.
  • Facility Management
    Oversee the condition and day‑to‑day needs of the facility.
    Protect and preserve the historic integrity of the Poncan Theatre.
    Coordinate maintenance, repairs, restoration projects, vendor relationships, and capital improvements.
    Assist in planning and executing long‑term facility improvements.
  • Staff & Volunteers
    Provide leadership and coordination for staff and volunteers.
    Set clear expectations and maintain consistent communication.
    Support production teams without directing creative decisions.
  • Community & Audience Engagement
    Maintain a high standard of customer experience.
    Build relationships with local organizations, schools, sponsors, donors, and community partners.
    Serve as a visible representative of the Poncan Theatre in the community.
    Serve as the primary spokesperson and representative for the Poncan Theatre.
    Promote the Poncan Theatre as a leading cultural and community destination in Ponca City.
  • Marketing Oversight
    Oversee marketing direction and audience growth efforts.
    Ensure consistency in public messaging and branding.
  • Board Communication
    Provide regular updates to the Board of Directors.
    Work in alignment with Board direction and organizational priorities.
    This position would report directly to the Board of Directors.
