Job Description

SUMMARY: Instructs students in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women. This position is exempt from Fair Labor Standards.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Teach District approved curriculum.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to student maturity and interests.
  • Prepare for assigned classes.
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with location and student needs.
  • Guide learning toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, projects, and communicating them to students.
  • Assist administration in implementing student life policies, develop reasonable classroom behavior rules, and maintain order fairly.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare reports.
  • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Participate in Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings when requested.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records per law, district policy, and regulations.
  • Be available to students and parents outside instructional day for education-related purposes.
  • Communicate regularly with parents via email, newsletters, notes, phone calls, conferences, etc.
  • Plan and coordinate work of teacher assistants, parents, and volunteers in classroom and field trips.
  • Meet district and site professional development requirements.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise students, student aides, volunteers, and support staff under direction.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience
:
Bachelor's degree.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
:
Valid Teaching Certificate in area of study required. Career Tech or STEM Career Tech certification preferred.

Language Skills
:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information to groups.

Mathematical Skills
:
Ability to work with probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, trigonometry; apply fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Ability
:
Solve practical problems, deal with variables, interpret instructions in written, oral, diagram format.

Skills and Abilities

:
Apply current research and theory to instructional program; plan and implement lessons based on objectives and student needs; establish relationships with students, peers, parents; oral and written communication skill.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Regularly required to stand, talk, hear, walk; occasionally bend or twist; lift up to 30 lbs; require near vision.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Noisy environment moderate to loud.

Additional duties may be assigned; compliance with ADA required.
