Title Vi Teacher Assistant
Ponca City Public Schools
Facilitates implementation of Title Vii services at the school site.
Employment terms: 9 month contract, 6.5 hours per day, exclusive of a lunch.
FLSA classification: nonexempt.
Evaluation: annually by title Vii director.
Physical demands: this is an overview intended for compliance with the ada – it is not an exhaustive list of the duties to be performed. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of a specific position.
Regular requirements: sit for extended periods; twist at the neck and trunk; bend and reach at, below and above shoulder level, repetitive use of fingers and hands to grasp and/or operate equipment; lift/move up to 15 pounds.
Occasional requirements: walk, reach with hands and arms overhead, above shoulder and horizontally; lift/move up to 25 pounds.
Visual requirements: close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, ability to adjust focus.
Hearing/speaking requirements: adequate to exchange information.
Essential duties and responsibilities:
Note - these duties vary based upon the individual student needs. Typical duties may include:
Demonstrates understanding of student's problems and is courteous and fair.Demonstrates initiative and creativity with students and the title Vii program.Provides academic support to ensure student success in school under the guidance of teachers.Provides tutoring for targeted students in reading and math under the guidance of teachers.Maintains progress records on all students tutored.Attends conferences for Indian students related to academic performance as needed.Attends other school functions as needed.Keeps records as needed for compliance with program requirements.Completes the 506 forms at respective school sites.Counsels with students who are in danger of failing or dropping out of school and refers these students to appropriate agencies for additional support.Works with school principals, counselors, and teachers to support and facilitate positive teacher-pupil interaction and teacher-parent support.Provides feedback to parents, teachers, and administrators regarding possible problem situations. __Refers all concerns to the appropriate administrator.Makes home visits to Indian students' homes as necessary.Determines parent cost needs of Indian students and refers students or parents to the appropriate resources for assistance.Assumes other duties that arise as the program develops such as serving as a resource person on cultural issues for classroom teachers.Assists with all title Vii activities as needed.Complies with all board of education policies and procedures.Performs all other tasks as supervisor may assign.
