Position Summary
The Chief Metallurgist and Materials Scientist serves in the Engineering Department. An employee in this position will help create new products from conception to production while performing various materials and welding related tasks.
Essential Functions- Create material specifications for custom and commercially available materials (metallic and non metallic), heat treat, coatings, and related processes.
- Oversee lab testing performed onsite or by external laboratories.
- Lead failure analysis and prepare written reports.
- Write or oversee the creation of welding procedures and processes.
- Research and validate new materials and welding processes.
- Oversee training and mentoring of welders, QA/QC personnel, painters, engineers, and other production personnel in materials and processes.
- Support designers and engineers in material and welding process selection.
- Evaluate and audit vendors, suppliers, and contractors for materials and processes.
- Assist in the development and validation of new vendors and suppliers.
- Support QC/QA during customer quality audits as needed.
- Support sister companies on material selection, vendor validation, and failure analysis as necessary.
- Assess usability, environmental impact, and safety of materials.
- Observe all safety regulations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to assist with successful operations and business continuity.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
- Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
- Successfully passes all applicable general pre employment testing including but not limited to background check, pre employment drug screening, pre employment fit tests, pre employment aptitude and/or competency assessment(s) and pre employment Pulmonary Function Test (PFT).
- In person, predictable attendance in Ponca City, OK. (a hybrid work schedule may be considered).
- Overtime required based on business needs.
- Proficiency in spoken English language.
Required:
- Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science.
- Minimum 5 to 7 years of manufacturing and related engineering experience in manufacturing engineering functions.
- Experience working in a team environment, preferably with a small to medium sized company.
- Master’s degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, or related field.
- PE license in Oklahoma.
- Strong understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes, and applicable industry standards.
- Familiarity with plasma cutting, laser cutting, forming, welding, heat treat, coatings, plating, and painting processes.
- Experience analyzing laboratory results for a wide range of metallic and non metallic materials.
- Leadership experience with a demonstrated commitment to quality and mentoring.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast paced, high demand environment and meet timelines.
- Experience with ERP systems in discrete manufacturing (preferably Made2
Manage). - Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel), with emphasis on Excel for data analysis and reporting.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with teammates and cross functional stakeholders.

Employees are frequently required to walk, sit, climb, bend, reach, and squat or kneel. The employee works primarily indoors and will be sitting for prolonged periods at a desk while keyboarding, with repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus while reading and staring at a computer monitor. The Employee must speak clearly and audibly, and have the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds (e.g., building alarms) from in person speech, telephone, or remote communication.
While in the office, the Employee may be called upon to stand, kneel, push, pull, reach overhead, stoop, crouch, climb, and lift; therefore, the Employee should be able to independently lift 25 lbs. The employee must be able to access and navigate each department. When visiting the manufacturing work environments including shops and warehouses, an employee in this position will be subject to exposure to dirt, dust, noise, vibration, moving objects, mechanical parts, and equipment hazards.
