DefinitionTo clean and maintain a variety of Marland Estate buildings and grounds; and to perform other custodial maintenance duties relative to assigned area of responsibility.
SupervisionReceives general supervision from the Director of the Marland Estate.
Essential and Marginal FunctionsEssential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Essential Functions- Sweep, mop, strip and wax floors; shake out mats; vacuum carpets.
- Ensure all safety and fire regulations are followed.
- Dust furniture; polish glassware and windows.
- Clean restrooms and water fountains.
- Perform routine inspections on all lights and electrical outlets to maintain working order: check buildings for leaks.
- Open and close the Marland Mansion; unlock doors, turn off/on burglar alarms, turn on/off lights.
- Must have acceptable attendance and the ability to work well with people.
- Any specific requirement that is stated in the “offer of employment letter.”
- Safety for oneself and others is a primary responsibility of every employee.
- Check and clean all rooms, including Lydie’s Cottage after events.
- Set up chairs and tables for events.
- Answer phones when necessary.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Knowledge of:
- Principles and procedures of building maintenance.
- Current building safety and fire regulations.
- Turf maintenance.
- Air conditioning filters and boiler operations.
- Sound and lighting technology.
Required Skills and
Competencies:
- Operate a variety of maintenance equipment, including an electric buffer, vacuum cleaner, chair and table dollies.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Understand and follow oral and written instruction.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Maintain effective audio/visual discrimination and perception to the degree necessary for the successful performance of assigned duties.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
ExperiencePrior custodian experience required.
TrainingMust possess a High School diploma or GED.
License or CertificateA valid driver’s license is required.
Working ConditionsEnvironmental Conditions:
- Mostly indoor environment; exposure to dust and cleaning chemicals; work with cleaning machinery; may work on scaffolds and ladders.
Physical Conditions:
- Essential and marginal functions may require maintain physical condition necessary for walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; moderate to heaving lifting and carrying; and repeated bending.
