This hands-on position is responsible for the operation, maintenance, optimization, and reliability of mechanical systems (HVAC) supporting a live broadcast studio environment. This position ensures the continuous operation, maintenance, and climate control of critical facility infrastructure (electrical distribution, power, HVAC, building controls and physical plant) in a live broadcasting environment to ensure continuous uptime, precise environmental control and compliance with safety and broadcast-critical standards.

The position collaborates directly with broadcast technicians to prevent technical downtime, maintaining the strict environmental conditions required for 24/7 mission-critical media operations.

Qualifications
  • 7+ years' experience in:

    • Commercial, mission critical facility such as hospital, or media/broadcast facilities preferred

    • HVAC and mechanical system operations

  • Experience in data centers, studios, or critical environments strongly preferred

  • High school diploma or GED required; associate's degree in HVAC/R, facilities engineering, or related field (or equivalent technical experience)

  • Strong knowledge of:

    • HVAC systems (chilled water, DX, VAV)

    • Building Management Systems (BMS/BAS)

    • Mechanical system controls and automation

  • Familiarity with:

    • Redundancy design (N+1, 2N)

    • Load calculations and thermal management

    • Acoustic and vibration considerations

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications

  • Ability to work under pressure during live broadcast scenarios

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred)

  • HVAC Technical Training Certificate preferred

  • EPA Certificate required

  • OSHA 10/40 Certification preferred

  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and customer focused skills

  • Understanding of advanced principles of chilled water systems, refrigeration systems, and domestic water systems

  • Working knowledge of plumbing, painting, electrical, and/or other general repair skills preferred

  • Must have a valid Florida Driver's License and be able to operate a motor vehicle

  • Incumbent must demonstrate competence in the use of equipment and application of procedures before being allowed to perform independently.

  • Familiarity CMMS or digital work order systems (e.g., Service Now, iOFFICE, or similar).

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.

  • Customer service mindset with a professional, team-oriented attitude.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple assignments in a fast-paced environment.

  • Commitment to safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

  • Ability to work Saturdays as part of a standard weekly schedule.

  • Ability to work nonstandard hours and on-call shifts, including early morning, late night, weekend, and holidays when the need arises, such as during Live studio broadcasts.

Responsibilities/Duties
  • Operate and maintain HVAC, chilled water systems, air handling units (AHUs), and precision cooling systems supporting studio and technical spaces.

  • Manage and monitor critical infrastructure equipment including Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), diesel generators, automatic transfer switches, chillers, and CRAH/CRAC units.

  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mission-critical HVAC systems, closed loop systems, and chillers to prevent overheating in server rooms, studios, master control rooms (MCR), and production spaces.

  • Manage and monitor building systems (BMS/BAS) to ensure optimal environmental conditions for broadcast equipment and respond to alarms.

  • Work in tandem with broadcast engineering and DTS teams to align facility capabilities with high-tech production needs.

  • Maintain environmental conditions for:

    • Studios (temperature stability, silent operation)

    • Control rooms and edit suites

    • Equipment rooms, data centers, and broadcast racks

  • Perform highly complex preventative and corrective maintenance on physical site systems.

  • Perform root cause analysis on system malfunctions and develop action plans to prevent recurrence.

  • Ensure tight temperature and humidity tolerances for sensitive broadcast equipment.

  • Minimize noise and vibration impacts on live production environments.
