Position: Dev/Research Engineer 2

Overview

Dev/Research Engineer 2 (Mechanical – Fuel Systems / Injector Development)

Location: Pontiac, Illinois (Onsite)

Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Compensation: $38 to $42 per hour (W2)

About The Role: This position supports a small injector development team focused on prototype design, precision assembly, teardown, inspection, and testing. Work is highly hands-on; documentation and methodical record keeping are essential.

Team and Assignment Structure
  • Team consists of 3 full-time engineers plus 1 part-time engineer
  • This role is an added headcount to support growing development and testing needs
  • Work is collaborative with consistent interaction with manufacturing partners
  • Processes evolve as development progresses; adaptability is important
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform teardown, inspection, measurement, and rebuild activities for injector prototypes
  • Investigate failure mechanisms using advanced imaging systems, metrology tools, and specialized gauges
  • Maintain precise documentation; organize records and development data
  • Prepare and track components for builds; maintain detailed logs
  • Operate precision assembly equipment and injector test benches
  • Analyze performance and test data; communicate findings to engineering and manufacturing groups
  • Update drawings in Creo when needed; not a primary focus
  • Support process refinement and collaborate with partners during development cycles
Required Qualifications
  • Engineering degree required; master’s degree acceptable
  • 2 to 4 years of mechanical or related hands-on experience
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints
  • Experience with mechanical inspections or teardowns
  • Strong organization skills and consistent documentation habits
  • Clear verbal and written communication
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently after direction
  • Comfortable with a work environment that is 75 percent lab or manufacturing and 25 percent office
Preferred Experience
  • Background in machining or manufacturing processes
  • Experience with metrology equipment or advanced imaging systems
  • Familiarity with precision measurement and tight tolerances
  • Involvement in iterative development processes such as teardown, analyze, rebuild
