Amentum is seeking several Industrial Wastewater Treatment Operator III positions in Pontiac, IL. Typical work schedule is AWS 12‑hour shifts (6am–6pm or 6pm–6am); hours may vary based on business demand.

Responsibilities

Operate, adjust, and clean process treatment equipment; laboratory test waste streams; perform general maintenance; safely handle and transfer chemicals and waste streams; maintain general housekeeping. Qualified candidates must schedule testing for the Illinois Class K Operators License within 12 months of hire.

  • Operate and maintain the industrial wastewater treatment plant.
  • Follow procedures for cleaning, equipment use, maintenance, calibration, and safe handling of chemicals.
  • Collect samples and conduct in-plant tests to control and monitor treatment processes.
  • Perform in-plant operational control tests and process calculations using analytical instruments and mathematical calculations.
  • Record in-plant test results, meter readings, gauge readings, flow quantities, and other technical data.
  • Perform in-plant maintenance according to established schedules and procedures: cleaning, servicing, lubricating, and repairing pumps, chemical feed equipment, electrical/mechanical devices.
  • Analyze and resolve work problems or assist coworkers in solving work problems.
  • Understand company policies and enforce safety regulations.
  • Follow proper safety guidelines: job hazard analysis, lockout/tagout procedures, and wear required PPE.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, analytical skills, and excellent organizational skills.
  • Maintain a strict schedule while demonstrating flexibility in day-to-day activities and scheduling for the benefit of the customer.
  • Operate air, steam, and water systems and associated equipment such as chillers, water towers, air compressors, boilers, and heat exchangers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift up to 50lbs.
  • Climb extension ladders, roof ladders, stepladders, and stairs at least 10 times during a shift.
  • Flexibility to bend/stoop, squat, and kneel repetitively during a shift.
  • Move in a 90‑degree fashion repetitively during a shift.
  • Stretch/reach repetitively during a shift.
  • Walk extensively throughout the plant during a shift.
  • Use a company/ client‑approved utility knife.
  • Differentiation of colors for piping color‑coding.
  • Repetitive wrist movement.
  • Interact with all clients professionally and friendly, even when stressed.
  • Certify operation of forklift and aerial lift.
Special Requirements
  • Wear steel‑toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, and other required PPE.
  • Cope with job and work‑environment stressors to maintain acceptable performance levels.
  • Participate in required safety and administrative training.
  • Obtain Class K Operators License within 18 months of hire.
  • Receive client access badge.
Minimum Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3‑5 years of industrial wastewater experience.
Additional Information
  • Qualified applicants must pass a pre‑employment substance‑abuse test.
  • Position may require a valid driver’s license.
  • Position does not include sponsorship for U.S. work authorization.
  • Position requires a security access badge at the client’s location.
  • Position may require various shifts, weekends, and alternative work schedules.
Preferred Requirements
  • Knowledge of and certification in water/wastewater systems.
  • Experience with computer control systems.
  • Knowledge of wastewater system maintenance.
  • Proficiency on a PC performing email functions, documentation, and reporting using MS Office.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and proper safety practices during maintenance tasks.
  • Experience with clarified and dissolved air flotation.
  • Knowledge of sanitary treatment processes, including lagoons and activated sludge.
  • Experience with SCADAware process control programs.
