DOC Pontiac CC Corrections Nurse I (UPWARD MOBILITY) Reasonable Accommodation Statement

The Illinois Department of Corrections is hiring a Licensed Registered Nurse for the Corrections Nurse I role. The position involves performing direct nursing care for individuals in a correctional facility, maintaining a valid Illinois License, and functioning as a self‑starter in a correctional setting with excellent oral and written communication skills.

• Provides direct patient care and primary nursing care services.
• Reviews record‑keeping functions to confirm implementation of physician orders.
• Maintains security of medical equipment and supplies.
• Monitors and maintains compliance with safety and sanitation in patient treatment and examination rooms.
• Reviews medical records and completes health status forms on individuals in custody.
• Participates in Quality Assurance Programs by monitoring staff compliance with established policies and procedures.
• Performs other duties reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

• Graduation from an approved nursing education program resulting in an associate, diploma, or bachelor’s degree in nursing.
• Completion of the Corrections Nurse Trainee program or one year of nursing experience (within the last five years) in an acute care setting; preferred experience includes emergency room care, medical/surgical nursing, and/or ambulatory care.
• Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Illinois.

• Requires current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.
• Requires passing an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
• Requires passing a drug screen; use of unauthorized drugs, including cannabis, is prohibited.
• Applicants must abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards set by the employer.
• Must utilize digital technology, tools, platforms, and processes in managing and supporting various digital enhancements for greater efficiency.
