Are you detail-oriented, customer-focused, and skilled at keeping financial records accurate and organized?

Oakland County is seeking a dependable and motivated Financial Services Technician I to support financial and accounting operations within the Treasurer’s Office. In this role, you’ll perform a variety of clerical accounting and bookkeeping duties, assist with billing and payment processing, maintain accurate financial records, and provide excellent service to internal and external customers.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with numbers, solving problems, and contributing to a fast-paced office environment that supports important County services.

What you'll do:

Process payments, post receipts, and maintain accurate financial and account records

Prepare bank deposits, reconcile statements, and assist with financial reporting

Post journal entries and maintain general and subsidiary accounts

Prepare billing notices, review accounts, and assist with payment arrangements when needed

Respond to customer and client account inquiries by phone and in person

Review and process invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance with procedures

Maintain organized financial records, reports, and documentation

Use County financial systems and software to support daily accounting operations

Assist with training and supporting less experienced clerical staff as needed

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be a high school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Educational Development Test.

Have had one (1) year of full-time bookkeeping and related clerical work experience which involved basic accounting or bookkeeping principles, utility billing which included customer service, or a closely related area.

NOTE:

One (1) year of coursework at an accredited college or university in a business curriculum which included at least two accounting classes, may substitute for the one (1) year of experience listed above.

ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS Completion of an accounting or bookkeeping course covering basic accounting and bookkeeping practices.

Reasonable knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.

Reasonable knowledge of modern record keeping management and operations.

Reasonable ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Reasonable ability to perform standardized computations.

Reasonable ability to perform standardized computations using personal computer applications and keyboard.

Reasonable ability to make routine decisions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.

Familiar with current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail and Internet software.
