Are you a student looking to gain valuable, hands-on work experience while continuing your education? Join Oakland County in a part-time position designed to help students develop professional skills, explore potential career paths and contribute to meaningful work within County government.
What You’ll Do- Gain practical workplace experience while completing your diploma, degree or certificate.
- Support an Oakland County department with entry-level duties, typically clerical or administrative in nature.
- Complete assignments that may vary depending on the needs of your assigned department.
- Use current Countywide and department-specific software and technology.
- Work approximately 20 hours per week, typically four hours per day during the morning or afternoon.
- Build professional skills and experience while continuing your education.
- Explore career opportunities across a variety of Oakland County departments.
- Gain exposure to public service and the important work of local government.
- Enjoy a part-time schedule designed to complement your academic commitments.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
RequiredMinimum Qualifications
- Be at least sixteen (16) years of age.
- Be enrolled in high school working on completion of diploma;
- Be enrolled in college working on completion of degree;
- Be enrolled in a technical business institute, vocational school, or adult/community education program working on completion of diploma or certificate.
NOTE:
Individuals under the age of eighteen (18) who have not graduated High School must have a Co-operative Training Agreement or Work Permit issued through their school.
NOTE:
Adult education classes or certificate programs do not qualify unless the coursework leads to the completion of a high school diploma or post-high school certificate requiring a minimum of one (1) year.
- Completion of courses in subjects related to the type of work performed.
- Reasonable ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Reasonable ability to use a personal computer and word processing software.
- Reasonable ability to write legibly.
- Reasonable ability to communicate with fellow workers and the general public.
- Reasonable ability to maintain clerical records.
- Familiar with current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and Internet software.
- Proof of enrollment will be required at the time of hire.
