IN THIS ROLEOakland Schools is seeking a dedicated and dynamic Civil Rights/Title IX Coordinator to lead and strengthen our commitment to a learning and working environment free from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. As our Civil Rights/Title IX Coordinator, you will play a vital leadership role in shaping and implementing a comprehensive civil rights and compliance program for students enrolled in Oakland Schools programs.
You will ensure adherence to state and federal nondiscrimination laws while helping cultivate a culture rooted in dignity, accountability, and respect.

WHAT WE NEED- Serves as subject matter expert on requirements of and compliance with Title II, Title VI, Title IX and Section 504 for students and employees.
- Receives and responds to reports or allegations of civil rights violations, discrimination, or discriminatory harassment and retaliation.
- Inform complainants about procedures and assist the individuals with filing complaints when needed.
- Investigate Title II, Title VI, Title IX and Section 504 complaints in compliance with District policies, administrative rules and state or federal legislation.
- Ensure students participating in work-based learning programs are guaranteed equal treatment by their employers and document accordingly.
- Tracks trends, reports and develops measures to identify and remediate discriminatory practices throughout the organization.
- Ensure implementation of District’s bullying and cyberbullying policy and administrative rule in all District student programs.
- Responsible for completion and submission of the District’s Civil Rights Data Collection.
- Works closely with Student Services Department to receive data as related to civil rights.
- Monitor student programs, activities and services to ensure compliance with Title II, Title VI, Title IX and Section 504 and develop measures to address deficiencies.
- Coordinate with Legal Affairs and Student Services on civil rights concerns, data collection, analysis and corrective actions.
- Monitors the overall implementation of state and federal civil rights for the District.
- Regularly review District and building publications to ensure inclusion of nondiscrimination statement as required by law.
- Inform all students, parents and employees about the District’s discrimination complaint procedures.
- Develop and implement diversity, equity and inclusion practices within the District’s student programs in accordance with federal and state law.
- Ensure District facilities are ADA compliant, notices are posted and complaints are addressed as required by law.
- Bachelor’s Degree
- Experience with civil rights/Title IX or equivalent experience conducting sensitive investigations in an efficient manner
- One to three years of successful experience in regulatory compliance is strongly preferred
- Experience facilitating grievance procedures and investigating complaints is highly desirable

SALARY DETAILS$81,276 - $94,254 salary based on relevant prior work experience, with the potential to earn up to $101,501 after employment with Oakland Schools.
Exempt position / 12-month work year.
