Elementary Instructional Specialist

The Huron Valley Schools is seeking an enthusiastic, energetic, and innovative Elementary Instructional Specialist to fill a vacancy in the district. The program is supported by a teaching team that works collaboratively to develop and implement curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications

Valid teaching certificate. Master's degree in reading/language arts preferred. Minimum of four years professional teaching experience preferred. Current in BEST practices in literacy instruction (Science of Reading, LETRS, etc.) Evidence of successful experience as a teacher and professional leader. Excellent communication, problem solving, planning, interpersonal, organizational and instructional skills. Strong group process and collaboration skills. Demonstrate skills in fostering parent-school partnerships.

Willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge. Experience in the implementation of authentic assessment tools and strategies. Ability to mentor staff in the development of their instructional programs and strategies.

Essential Functions

Support the process for maintaining the highly qualified status of building staff. Work with students on either a one-to-one or small group basis in order to improve their literacy skills. Serve as a building literacy coach. Assist the principal in the development of school improvement plans that enhance student achievement. Develop and model lessons for teachers and para educators that align with the District's literacy goals.

Develop common professional development programs to support data use. Utilize data management systems to design building and individual student intervention plans. Plan and provide professional development training. Communicate with teachers, parents and other school personnel relative to student achievement. Participate in ongoing staff development opportunities. Serve on a District Literacy Team. Develop a building-based parent involvement program. Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or

Experience:

Master's Degree preferred

Language, Mathematical and Reasoning

Skills:

Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
