Sr. Accountant

Description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team in Pontiac, Michigan. This contract to hire position is within the government sector, offering an opportunity to contribute to municipal financial operations and analysis. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in governmental accounting practices and demonstrate a strong ability to manage complex financial tasks.

The day-to-day responsibilities include:

- Conduct month-end closing procedures and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.

- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

- Prepare and post journal entries while monitoring their impact on financial statements.

- Perform account reconciliations to verify data accuracy and resolve discrepancies.

- Oversee bank reconciliations and ensure proper documentation of transactions.

- Develop and analyze operating and capital budgets, providing insights to senior management.

- Forecast revenue trends and provide detailed financial analysis to support decision-making.

- Generate ad hoc financial reports from the central database to assist in policy development.

- Collaborate with departments to ensure alignment with financial goals and compliance.

- Apply accrual accounting principles to improve financial accuracy and reporting.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following skill set:

- Minimum of 7 years of accounting experience, preferably in a governmental or municipal setting.

- Proficiency in accrual accounting and knowledge of governmental accounting standards.

- Familiarity with BS& A software or similar financial systems.

- Strong skills in month-end close, general ledger maintenance, and journal entry preparation.

- Demonstrated ability to perform account and bank reconciliations with precision.

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data.

- Excellent communication and organizational abilities, capable of working independently.
