General Summary

$24.94 – $29.09

What You’ll Do
  • Patrol Oakland County Parks to enforce state laws and local ordinances.
  • Respond to and investigate complaints involving accidents, property damage, disturbances, and other park-related incidents.
  • Answer emergency calls involving illness, injury, fire, or other disruptions to park operations.
  • Provide emergency first aid services and assist with initial fire response until emergency personnel arrive.
  • Respond to emergency situations and assist in making arrests when necessary.
  • Supervise trustworthy work details assigned within the parks.
  • Complete reports and daily activities using Countywide and department‑specific software systems.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • At least 2 years of full‑time experience as a police officer, military, corrections, or Federal Law Enforcement officer; or
    • 1 year of full‑time experience as an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Deputy.
    • Current MCOLES license or enrollment in a police academy or equivalent program with successful completion prior to hire.
    • 1,000 hours of service as an Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Reserve, Marine, Mounted, or Park Deputy.
    • Successful completion of a Reserve Police Academy and 1,000 hours of service.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • No conviction of a violent or sexual crime (including domestic violence). Criminal convictions are disqualifying.
  • 20/20 corrected vision with both eyes and normal color vision and depth perception.
  • Normal corrected hearing in each ear as defined by MCOLES standards.
Special Requirements
  • Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • Maintain firearms qualification and deputy status.
  • Background investigation covering employment, school, credit, criminal, military, or other personal records.

Duties & Responsibilities

Utilize current countywide and/or department‑specific software to complete assignments.

Physical Requirements
  • Guard an area for a full eight‑hour day.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
  • Speak, give commands, perform inspections, and deliver items.
Working Conditions

Work is typically performed inside a building or in a motor vehicle and may involve going outside to deliver items or search areas.

Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • Reasonable ability to make decisions under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in writing general reports.
  • Ability to provide information to the general public.
  • Knowledge of first‑aid methods.
  • Experience performing security work that requires independent judgment.
