General Summary

Compensation: $80,062 - $99,612 per year. Performs nursing care activities for the juvenile residents of Children’s Village. Performs health care assessments on assigned patients, observes the patient’s condition, and reports any changes or reactions to medications or treatments. Documents observations on the patient’s record and schedules and prepares patients for or assists in the administration of physical examinations. Responds to emergency situations, requiring travel between campus buildings.

Utilizes current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Perform nursing care activities for the juvenile residents of Children’s Village.
  • Perform health care assessments on assigned patients, observe patient condition, and report changes or reactions to medications or treatments.
  • Document observations on the patient’s record and schedule and prepare patients for or assist in the administration of physical examinations.
  • Respond to emergency situations, requiring travel between campus buildings.
  • Utilize current countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing to practice as a registered professional nurse in the state of Michigan.
  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university. Current Children’s Village Registered Nurse positions have twenty‑four (24) months to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, with an additional extension possible.
  • Have at least two (2) years of full‑time increasingly responsible public health, community nursing, and/or correctional nursing work experience under professional nursing supervision.
  • A Master’s Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Public Administration, or closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of experience.
  • Volunteer experience equivalent in level and scope may be accepted.
  • Possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Considerable knowledge of modern principles, methods, materials, practices, and specialized terminology of public professional nursing service.
  • Considerable ability to communicate under adverse conditions with distressed individuals and to make routine decisions in accordance with division policy and procedures.
  • Considerable ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Children’s Village facility staff, Health Division professional and non‑professional staff, volunteers, and the general public.
  • Considerable ability to cope with difficult and/or emergency situations requiring immediate decisions in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Reasonable ability to compile pertinent information and prepare and present oral or written technical reports to supervisors, staff, and the general public.
  • Reasonable ability to exercise mature judgment and initiative in analyzing problems and recommending solutions.
  • Completion of a certified medication course, desirable for administering medications and injections.
  • Physical condition permitting lifting, standing and/or walking for extended periods.
Special Requirements
  • Maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license.
  • Submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest X‑rays at County expense.
