General Summary

18.61 -  21.71. This position is on-site and offers meaningful, hands‑on experience in local government. It is an excellent starting point for a career while making a real impact in the community.

What You’ll Do
  • Gain hands‑on professional experience while working alongside experienced County staff in a variety of departments.
  • Assist with gathering, organizing, and analyzing information for special projects, reports, and departmental initiatives.
  • Conduct research, compile data, and perform basic calculations to support business operations and decision‑making.
  • Help prepare written reports, presentations, and other professional documents.
  • Accompany professional staff on assignments to observe processes and contribute to project work.
  • Conduct interviews with clients, employees, or community members to collect information for departmental needs.
  • Communicate with other County departments and outside agencies by phone, email, and in person to exchange information.
  • Learn County policies, procedures, and professional best practices through meaningful on‑the‑job training.
  • Utilize County‑wide and department‑specific software applications to complete assignments efficiently.
  • Travel to County facilities or off‑site locations as needed to support projects and departmental operations.

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university as a freshman or sophomore (equates to steps 1 or 2 of the salary range).
  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university as a junior or senior (equates to steps 3 or 4 of the salary range).
  • Current enrollment in an accredited college or university in a graduate degree program (equates to steps 5 or 6 of the salary range).
Additional Desirable Qualifications
  • Reasonable ability to present ideas effectively, either orally or in writing.
  • Reasonable ability to utilize personal computer programs and other data processing capabilities.
  • Reasonable ability to utilize current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e‑mail, and Internet software.
  • Knowledge of program analysis, evaluation, research methods, and statistics.
  • Ability to:
    • Plan and complete assignments within deadlines.
    • Make routine decisions in accordance with policies and procedures.
    • Recognize and correct departures from operating practices and procedures.
    • Initiate improvements in operations.
    • Perform standardized and statistical computations.
Special Requirements When Assigned to Children’s Village
  • Before beginning employment, candidates must provide documentation from the Michigan Department of Human Services that they have not been named in a central registry case as the perpetrator of child abuse or child neglect.
  • Applicants being considered for hire must sign a form authorizing Children’s Village to request and receive a criminal history check in accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974.
