School Social Worker

The Social Worker provides social-emotional support and intervention services to students identified as at risk for academic, behavioral, or social challenges. This role includes assisting students and families in addressing personal, family, behavioral, and community-related issues that may impact educational success. The Social Worker collaborates with school staff, families, and outside agencies to provide counseling, advocacy, case management, crisis intervention, and support services to promote student well-being, academic achievement, and positive social development.

Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Social Work, must provide Transcripts with Application.
  • Must be registered with the State of Michigan as a School Social worker.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and indirect social work services to students receiving special education services in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), Section 504 Plans, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Conduct comprehensive social, emotional, behavioral, and environmental assessments to identify barriers impacting student learning and educational success.
  • Collaborate with students, families, educators, administrators, and community agencies to develop and implement individualized intervention plans that support academic, social, emotional, and behavioral growth.
  • Assist students in the development and implementation of Educational Development Plans (EDPs) to support postsecondary readiness, career exploration, and transition planning.
  • Design, coordinate, and facilitate programs and activities that promote social-emotional learning, self-advocacy, conflict resolution, problem-solving skills, and career awareness.
  • Provide individual and group counseling services to address social, emotional, behavioral, and attendance-related concerns that may interfere with student achievement.
  • Conduct interviews with students, parents/guardians, and relevant stakeholders to assess student needs and identify appropriate supports and services.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school, families, and community resources, facilitating referrals to outside agencies and coordinating services when appropriate.
  • Provide parent education and support regarding child and adolescent development, behavior management strategies, and techniques to promote academic success at home.
  • Participate as an active member of multidisciplinary teams, including IEP, Section 504, Child Study, Mental Health, and Child Protection teams.
  • Consult and collaborate with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, counselors, and related service providers to develop effective interventions and support student success.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices and current research in social work, mental health, and adolescent development to support student achievement and well-being.
  • Assist administrators and instructional staff in developing strategies to improve student engagement, attendance, behavior, and academic outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely documentation, case notes, assessment reports, service logs, and compliance records in accordance with district, state, and federal requirements.
