Software Developer (Legacy Systems & Modernization)
Our client is seeking a skilled Software Developer who enjoys bridging the gap between legacy and modern systems. This is a hands‑on role maintaining applications written in BASIC, VB 6.0, and COBOL, while also contributing to modernization projects using Python, SQL, and API integration. Basepay range
$80,000.00/yr - $/yr
Key Responsibilities- Maintain and enhance applications written in BASIC, COBOL, and VB 6.0
- Develop scripts and tools using Python in Linux environments
- Build, consume, and document RESTful and SOAP APIs
- Write and optimize SQL queries across multiple databases
- Manage cron jobs, shell scripts, and automation tools in Linux
- Participate in upgrades, refactoring, and integration projects
- Troubleshoot production issues across legacy and modern systems
- Proficiency in:
- BASIC, VB 6.0, Qic Basic
- COBOL (batch and/or transactional)
- Python scripting
- SQL (MySQL, Postgre
SQL, MS SQL, or Oracle) - API integration (REST, JSON, XML)
- Strong working knowledge of Linux OS (Red Hat, CentOS, Debian, etc.)
- Comfortable working in command‑line and terminal environments
- Familiarity with legacy systems and modernization best practices
- Experience migrating or refactoring legacy codebases
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control (Git)
- Familiarity with schedulers (cron, Control‑M)
- Understanding of secure API authentication (OAuth2, API keys)
