Job Summary

The Nursing/Activities Assistant at North Mississippi Health Services plays a crucial role in supporting the Activities Coordinator by planning, executing, and evaluating programs and events for residents. The assistant also serves as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) when required, assisting with resident care and ensuring accurate documentation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential to effectively interact with residents, families, volunteers, and other staff, fostering a positive and harmonious environment.

Activities

Services – Job Functions
  • Assist the Activities Coordinator in planning, implementing, and evaluating program events.
  • Help design themes, schedules, and decorations for the facility.
  • Drive the facility van/bus on activity outings, physician appointments, and other resident-related events.
  • Serve as a certified nursing assistant daily (e.g., passing trays, assisting residents with meals).
  • Provide CNA services on facility outings and during critical staffing shortages.
  • Maintain a neat and organized activity work area.
  • Deliver resident mail.
  • Manage petty cash for resident outings and related expenses.
  • Support initial and ongoing resident condition assessments and activity needs, advising the Activities Coordinator.
  • Ensure accurate completion of activity program records, daily entrance in departmental charts, attendance logs, etc.
  • Coordinate scheduling of beauty salon services for residents when needed.
  • Organize, store, and maintain department supplies, materials, and equipment.
  • Maintain an active list of supplies required for the facility beauty shop.
Qualifications Education
  • High School Diploma or GED. (Preferred) Required.
Licenses and Certifications
  • CNA – Certified Nursing Assistant (Required, upon hire).
  • BCLS – Basic Life Support (Required, upon hire).
Work Experience
  • Prior successful work or volunteer experience with elderly/handicapped persons is preferred.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and skill in serving adult populations, primarily geriatrics.
  • Above average communication skills to effectively interact with residents and staff.
  • Ability to use and care for nursing unit equipment when needed.
  • Continuing education requirements must be met.
  • Knowledge of age‑specific care resources and resources necessary to provide appropriate care.
  • Recognize changes in patient condition and report promptly.
  • Meet annual review requirements.
  • Prioritize patient care, carry out assigned duties, and document using worksheets.
  • Secondship accountability for the activity program’s success under the Activities Coordinator’s supervision.
  • Creativity and resourcefulness for one‑to‑one activities with homebound residents.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, friendliness, optimism, and a positive image projection.
  • Promote harmony across units and departments.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and respect for cultural diversity.
