We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an on‑site Electrician in HMP Prescoed, Pontypool NP15 1PS
.
Hours: 39 hours per week (Mon‑Thu 7:30am‑4:00pm, Fri 7:30am‑3:00pm).
At Amey, we support our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), by providing safe, clean and efficient prisons across 60 secure premises in England and Wales. The Electrician ensures planned and reactive maintenance work is carried out safely, compliantly and on time.
Responsibilities- Ensure Health & Safety standards are met across the contract.
- Test and inspect electrical installations in line with current IEE wiring regulations.
- Respond promptly to breakdowns, ensuring all work is carried out safely and efficiently.
- Perform planned and preventative electrical maintenance and diagnose/replace failed domestic electrical components.
- Actively fault find and problem solve on domestic electrical systems.
- Undertake electrical installation activities according to provided designs and IET Wiring Regulations.
- Monitor and order critical spares for all electrical services, and oversee the BMS System.
- Support zero carbon initiatives, contributing to sustainability goals, and handle additional tasks as directed by your line manager.
- Appropriate technical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2365 parts 1‑3, BTEC, NVQ level 3 or above).
- BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations, specifically 18th Edition.
- Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
- Experience of electrical maintenance activities, general distribution, installation, and testing.
- Ability to work alone and use initiative.
- Capable of working at heights.
