About

The Role

This is a hands-on role, where you will utilise your experience of installing, maintaining and repairing a variety of marine electronic equipment and systems.

As a member of our multi-disciplinary team of technicians within the Electronics Repair Centre (ERC), your knowledge and initiative will contribute to our ability to maintain our equipment to the highest standards.

You will carry out on board planned maintenance and participate in sea trials. Carry out electronic and electrical defect diagnosis and repair, using test equipment, technical documentation and engineering drawings to identify faults, complete repairs and carry out functional testing.

The role also includes production work, building, wiring and testing a variety of electrical and electronic assemblies, boxes and cable assemblies for new-build lifeboats and for safety stock. Other tasks include software installation and equipment calibrations and bench repair activity.

The ALC offers a clean, organised and safe work environment, with all tools, materials and PPE provided to enable you to undertake this work.

About You

You'll be practical and adaptable, with sound technical knowledge and be competent in fault diagnosis, with the ability to instruct and guide others.

You must be able to work to Engineering drawings and standardised work, be comfortable interpreting electrical/electronic schematics and using a logical approach to fault diagnosis safely and efficiently. You will be part of a team ensuring that lifeboats are refitted on time and within budget.

It is essential you have relevant City and Guilds or NVQ level 3/BTEC qualifications, time served apprenticeship or equivalent experience.

Previous experience on the assembly, installation, modification, repair/maintenance, and diagnosis of electronics equipment/systems within the marine environment is desirable.

Experience in electronic fault finding, soldering/rework, wiring, cable manufacture, and the assembly and testing of electrical/electronic equipment would be advantageous.
