Position Overview

As a Student Financial Services Specialist at Galen College of Nursing, you will provide information, guidance, and assistance regarding various types of financial assistance, including federal financial aid, state aid, workforce agencies, employer payments, and VA benefits, to facilitate the enrollment, persistence, and completion of students, consistent with the College's mission.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist and guide active students throughout their program, including contacting current students about missing/incomplete documents and assisting with form completion.
  • Review financial aid applications for accuracy and ensure eligible aid is packaged and disbursed in a timely manner.
  • Support students in the management of additional financing options, including state aid, workforce agencies, employer payments, and VA benefits.
  • Create payment arrangements on term balances to support campus cash collections.
  • Track and document completion of Exit Counseling at program end and follow-up with students as necessary.
  • Provide continued support and education to students and parents on topics related to Financial Aid, Title IV Federal Financial Aid, eligibility, financial literacy, and loan repayment.
  • Thoroughly document student communication in the student information system, including email, phone calls, text messages, and meetings.
  • Assist in other phases of financial aid, enrollment, and student support as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality of students and student information in accordance with FERPA, Department of Education, and other regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain current knowledge of college policies and processes and relevant accreditation and regulatory requirements.
  • Attend financial aid training, workshops, and seminars as necessary or requested by the College.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Education:

    Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, equivalent experience considered.
  • Experience:

    Prior experience with Federal Financial Aid programs preferred; experience with customer financial accounts preferred.
  • Skills:

    Excellent written and oral communication and customer service skills, strong organizational abilities, ability to prioritize and multitask, maintain confidentiality and discretion, and be a team player.
  • Special

    Qualifications:

    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office; ability to access Department of Education websites such as NSLDS, COD, CPS; no prior history of student loan default.
  • Physical/Mental Demands:
    Ability to sit at a computer desk for eight hours daily; flexible schedule, including evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Degree of Supervision:
    Minimal.
