Position: HVAC Truck Based Chiller Technical Team Lead (union)

Position Overview

Johnson Controls Inc. is looking for forward‑thinking talent to join the fast‑growing HVAC business in North America. The role supports startup, commissioning, and aftermarket services for air‑cooled and/or water‑cooled chillers, industrial chillers, AHU’s, and large roof‑top ducted units. You will provide high‑level service, problem analysis, and solutions to customers in industrial Petro‑Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Data Center, and other vertical environments.

Responsibilities
  • Provide the highest level of service to solve facility inefficiencies and resolve service‑related items.
  • Act as a trusted advisor, providing solutions and outcomes at commissioning and aftermarket service.
  • Provide recommendations, upselling opportunities, and quotations to support customer solutions.
  • Lead large complex repairs, jobs or retrofits.
  • Serve as an escalation point on technical issues and provide on‑the‑job training for other mechanics.
  • Ensure field operational disciplines of other technicians are followed and assist management with operational compliance.
  • Conduct self‑study (reading, research & practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency.
  • Communicate with customers upon arrival, before leaving, and keep them informed on the nature of service provided.
  • Manage assigned work to meet a professional level of execution, on‑time and to the customer satisfaction.
  • Repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, absorption chillers, screw chillers, and/or ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
  • Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
  • Perform HVAC troubleshooting and repair of large‑tonnage chillers, VSD’s, multiple OEM chiller panels, Allen‑Bradley control systems, and more.
  • Travel 10%–20% to support branch customer startup and commissioning activities as well as aftermarket service troubleshooting.
  • Pass a knowledge examination assessing proficiencies.
Qualifications
  • Minimum twelve (12) years of practical working experience on air‑cooled and/or water‑cooled chillers, industrial chillers, AHU’s or large roof‑top ducted units with strong HVAC/mechanical troubleshooting experience.
  • Must be a member of or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL‑CIO.
  • Experience in industrial Petro‑Chemical, Pharmaceutical, or Data Center vertical environments.
  • Leadership skills, recognized as a leader by peers, coach and mentor within the branch, and able to act independently and coordinate the work of other employees and contractors on a customer site.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to represent the company to customers and other outside contacts.
  • Ability to explain technical information to technical and non‑technical people.
  • Prioritize safety in all activities and possess Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and a valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; self‑starter with a passion/desire to learn and apply on the job.
  • Proficient with vibration equipment, pump and fan shaft alignment, and troubleshooting of industrial control systems.
Benefits & Compensation

Pay Range: {$41.45} hourly rate determined by the CBA/rate sheet. Benefits are provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. This is a Bargaining Unit Position. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role. Exceptional candidates may bring unique skills and experiences that exceed the typical profile.
