Position: HVAC Truck Based Chiller Technical Team Lead (union)

What you will do

Johnson Controls Inc. is looking for forward-thinking talent to join our organization to support the fast-growing HVAC business in North America.

How will you do it

Skilled HVAC Technicians are required with experience with air-cooled and/or water-cooled chillers, industrial chillers, AHU’s or large roof top ducted units. Preferred experience in Industrial Petro-Chemical, Pharmaceutical, or Data Center vertical environments. The company provides factory certification through its Service Technical Academy (STA) with recognition, monetary rewards, and advancement. Incentive programs are offered for turning in referral leads and quoting planned service agreements or L&M up to 6% payout of the sale value.

Additional support includes tools, uniforms, and a company vehicle.

Requirements
  • Be a dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and be responsible for startup, commissioning, and aftermarket services for this fast-growing business.
  • Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
  • Minimum of Twelve (12) years of practical working experience on air-cooled and/or water-cooled chillers, industrial chillers, AHU’s or large roof top ducted units with strong HVAC/mechanical troubleshooting experience. Lead large complex repairs, jobs or retrofits.
  • Recognized as a Leader by peers while being a coach and mentor within the branch. Escalation points on technical issues and provides on the job training for other mechanics.
  • Escalation points from the branch to the Product Technical Support PTS teams for critical issues. Viewed as an expert in a field by both employees and customers.
  • Assists management with assuring proper field operational disciplines of other Technicians are followed.
  • Regularly provides input on development and training needs of the branch.
  • Provides consultant level services for customers related to building systems and or product repairs and enhancements.
  • Ensures ultimate customer satisfaction levels with assigned customers.
  • Conducts self-study (reading, research and practice) to improve and maintain technical proficiency. Completes all training and certifications as required by the company.
  • Communicates with customers upon arrival and before leaving the work site. Ensures high levels of customer satisfaction. Meets regularly with customer to become familiar with operating problems. Keeps customer informed on the nature of service provided outstanding issues and recommends system enhancements, upgrades, and or repairs.
  • Manages assigned work to meet a professional level of execution, on-time and to the customer satisfaction.
  • Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, absorption chillers, screw chillers and/or ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
  • Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
  • Extensive experience in HVAC systems, (Chilled water loops, Pumping, Compressor enthalpy, Compressor trouble shooting and rebuild).
  • Mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, lasers, etc. of pumps, fans, Compressors.
  • Able to use vibration equipment to trouble shoot compressor drive lines.
  • Proficient in the operations, trouble shooting and repair of large tonnage chiller 460 vac VSD’s and medium voltage 4160 vac VSD’s.
  • Proficient in multiple OEM chiller panels and controllers.
  • Able to trouble shoot industrial Allen Bradley control systems and adjust.
  • Travel maybe required 10% to 20% to support Branch Customers startup and commissioning activities as well as aftermarket service trouble shooting.
  • You will be required to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
