Job SummaryThis position oversees daily warehouse and packaging operations in a safety-sensitive environment. It requires independent judgment to direct the activities of multiple employees. Reporting to the Packaging Manager, the Packaging Supervisor plans work and directs up to 10 employees, ensuring efficient material handling, packaging, equipment operation, documentation accuracy, and adherence to safety standards. The role includes oversight of packaging equipment operation, coordination of shipping/receiving activities, and routine maintenance responsibilities.
The incumbent must be able to take directions and assign job tasks to the Packaging staff. Additional duties may be added or deleted at any time. The role may fulfill the duties of the Packaging Manager when required (e.g., in the absence of the Packaging Manager).
Packaging Operation
- Apply the discretion necessary to supervise a staff of up to 10 employees during daily warehouse operations (Utility and Packaging Forklift Operators).
- Oversee transfer system operations and forklift activities.
- Oversee operation of packaging equipment: high-speed bagging lines, scales, palletizers, palletizing robot, pallet dispensers, printers, conveyors, stretch hooders, shrink wrappers, and bag kickers.
- Communicate equipment issues and maintain packaging-related inventories.
- Ensure production documentation accuracy and compliance with safety procedures.
- Maintain clean work areas and enforce housekeeping standards.
- Report operational problems to the Operations Manager.
Maintenance
- Ensure safe equipment isolation and strict Lockout/Tagout compliance.
- Oversee preventive and routine maintenance programs for packaging and warehouse equipment.
- Coordinate repair activities with maintenance personnel and track issue resolution.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Previous experience in supervisory role (preferably in packaging/warehousing).
Supervisors may work in a warehouse setting with exposure to equipment and workflows. Duties emphasize supervision, coordination, inspection, and oversight rather than routine manual labor. The following are representative requirements:
- Long hours, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Physical ability to perform lifting (up to 55 pounds), moving (up to 250 pounds), climbing ladders, operating control panels, and using hand tools.
- Dexterity for handling and reaching with hands; ability to speak and hear.
- Vision requirements for close and distance tasks, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus at safe working distances.
- Must be Forklift Certified and maintain proper credentials during employment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact.
- Must be able to safely operate a forklift and pass site certification.
- Ability to think independently and make decisions in the company est interest.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills; multi-tasking capability.
- Supervisory Responsibility:
Directly supervise up to 10 warehouse and packaging employees; interview, select, and train new hires in coordination with management and HR; conduct evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and development; manage attendance and overtime; maintain staffing levels to meet operational needs. - The Supervisor may perform production or operational tasks only during emergencies, training, or staffing shortages; such duties are not the primary function of the role.
This position operates in a fast-paced warehouse setting with some outdoor exposure. The role uses standard office equipment and warehouse tools such as hand trucks, box cutters, and tape dispensers.
