Title: Library Aide

Reports To: Librarian, Department Chair, Principal and Director of Media Services

Job Goal: Assist in operating the library program in an orderly, business‑like manner.

• The library assistant will adhere to all local, state and federal regulations.
• Adhere to all rules and regulations set forth by the Poplar Bluff Board of Education.
• Possess or be willing to learn library skills.
• Have the ability or willingness to learn the content of the library collection.
• Interact positively with children.
• Communicate clearly with teachers, students, administrators and other staff members.
• Read and understand written orders and instructions.
• Understand and follow up on oral and telephone messages and instructions.

• Assist with completing library cards and catalog cards.
• File materials.
• Use the Dewey Decimal System.
• Learn and use the card catalog, whether paper or electronic.
• Learn and use the Sears List of Subject Headings.
• Proficient in basic cataloging of materials.
• Understand the checking procedure for library materials, whether paper or electronic.
• Understand the processing procedure.
• Clean and repair materials.
• Pull materials for teacher and classroom use.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the elementary librarian or the department chair.
