We're hiring
HVAC Service TechnicianDiagnose, repair, and maintain residential and light commercial HVAC equipment for Buffington customers across Southeast Missouri and Northeast Arkansas.
You'll work out of a fully stocked truck, with support from dispatch and senior techs, representing a family-owned shop that's been here since 1951.

What you'll do- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, refrigerant, and control issues on furnaces, heat pumps, air conditioners, ductless mini-splits, and light commercial rooftop equipment.
- Perform repairs, refrigerant recovery and charging, component replacement, and preventative maintenance on residential and light commercial systems.
- Read schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer service documentation to isolate problems and follow approved repair procedures.
- Communicate findings clearly to homeowners and property managers — what the problem is, what you fixed, and what to watch for next.
- Present repair, replacement, indoor air quality, and maintenance plan options when they actually fit the equipment and the customer's goals.
- Complete service tickets, time entries, parts usage, and photos accurately from the field.
- Keep your service truck clean, organized, and stocked with the parts and consumables you reach for most.
- Participate in the after-hours on-call rotation during peak season so emergency customers reach a real technician.
- Follow safety standards every day — refrigerant handling, electrical safety, ladder use, lockout/tagout, PPE, and customer-home protection.
- Represent Buffington Brothers professionally at every appointment, on the truck, and on the phone.
Required Experience And Certifications
- 2+ years of residential or light commercial HVAC field service experience.
- EPA Section 608 certification (Universal preferred).
- Valid driver's license and a clean motor vehicle record.
- Working knowledge of HVAC controls, basic electrical, and refrigeration system operation.
- Comfort using a multimeter, manometer, refrigerant gauges, leak detector, and standard diagnostic tools.
- Strong communication skills with homeowners, property managers, and crew members.
Nice to have
- NATE certification.
- Carrier or other manufacturer-specific service training.
- Light commercial rooftop unit (RTU) experience.
- Indoor air quality or duct system diagnostic experience.
- Customer service or in-home sales background.
- Lift, carry, and position equipment and parts up to 50 lbs regularly; heavier items with assistance.
- Work comfortably in attics, crawl spaces, basements, mechanical rooms, and on residential and light commercial rooftops.
- Climb ladders, kneel, bend, and stand for extended periods.
- Tolerate working in extreme indoor and outdoor temperatures across heating and cooling seasons.
- Drive a company service truck between job sites throughout the workday.
Day shift, Monday through Friday, with an on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies during heating and cooling season.
