Title:

Position Overview:
The Director of Athletics and Activities role is to enable eligible students to take full advantage of the complete range of interscholastic athletics, programs, and extracurricular activities offered by the Poplar Bluff School District. The director is responsible for planning and facilitating all aspects of the school's extracurricular activities including hiring and supervising coaches, coordinating athletic events, ensuring compliance with school and state regulations, managing budgets, and promoting sportsmanship and student-athlete development.

* Employment terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education's policies, procedures, and agreements.
* Salary will be commensurate with experience and certification and will be based upon the candidate's qualifications.

Qualifications:
* Bachelor's degree in education
* Prior experience in a minimum of one of the following areas: coaching, athletic administration, or educational leadership
* Master's degree in School Administration is preferred
* Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as necessary
* Strong leadership and organizational abilities
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Knowledge of state and national athletic regulations
* Budgeting and financial management experiences
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Scheduling and Coordinating
* Collaborates with all district head coaches in the scheduling of games
* Collaborates and coordinates with the Assistant Athletic Director concerning all athletic activities
* Coordinates with administrative assistant to ensure all athletic activities are on the MSHSAA schedule
* Approve and oversee all district athletic trips including bus requests
* Coordinates meals and lodging for athletic teams' overnight trips
* Arrange & confirm officials/umpires for home events
* Collaborates with coaches to coordinate practice locations for athletics
* Coordinates and assists visiting teams with needed services
* Coordinate with the Athletic Trainer, EMT, and other associated service providers when required
Communication
* Serve as the primary liaison between the athletic department and school administration, parents, Booster Club, and the community
* Communicate schedules, policies, and updates to stakeholders
* Promote athletic achievements through school media, newsletters, and social media
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with staff, students, parents, and the community
* Promotes a positive image of the Poplar Bluff R-I District
* Provides local media (TV/Radio/DAR) with information regarding athletic events
* Informs all coaches of MSHSAA and SEMO Conference changes in rules and eligibility
* Posts information regarding athletic events through Constant Contact or other district-approved communication platforms
* Works with the building administrator regarding schedule changes/adjustments for reschedules or cancellations
* Create and maintain a consistent communication system with the Assistant Athletic Director
* Proficient use of the District's digital platforms
Community Relationships
* Coordinates and conducts the Poplar Bluff Basketball Showdown Tournament
* Recruits community support and partnership for the annual Show Down Tournament
* Coordinates athletic ticket program and passes
* Collaborates with the Booster Clubs to determine the needs of programs
* Meets with coaches, parents, students, or community members about concerns as needed
* Intentional with building and maintaining positive relationships with all students, families, and other stakeholders
* Schedules special events/activities to encourage community business partnerships (ie: Academy Rivalry, Academy Athlete of the Month, Pink Out PBRMC, etc)
* Coordinates with local medical partners to provide free physicals for PB athletes
Compliance and Supervision
* Oversees the maintenance of eligibility lists, student athletic physicals, records of contests, and reports of accidents
* Serves as the District Administrator responsible for directing MSHSAA
* Remains current on all rule and eligibility changes within MSHSAA and the SEMO Conference
* Leads/coordinates all annual staff-required training of coaches
* Investigates, addresses, and responds to MSHSAA reported violations
* Ensures follow-through and accountability for meeting all deadlines and directives given
* Supervises, in cooperation with principals, the activities of all athletic personnel and events
* Supervises all Varsity Football and Varsity Boys Basketball home and away games or other duties assigned
