Engineering Technician I/II/IIINature of Work:
Under the general supervision of the Engineering Permits Supervisor, performs technical work in the assimilation, compilation, and specialized processing of various development engineering tasks and projects. The work involves performing and/or assisting engineers and other professionals in a wide variety of design, engineering, data gathering, construction inspection, and development review. Such projects include street, water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and solid waste systems.
Determination of Engineering Technician I, II, or III is dependent upon the needs of the Engineering Division and based on candidate qualifications at the time of hire.
Essential Job Functions:Engineering Technician I this is an entry level position for engineer technicians
- Serves as initial engineering contact and responds to public inquiries from external and internal customers.
- Provides as-built engineering records and right of way information for use in the preparation of construction documents for both external and internal customers.
- Assists with the coordination of utility One-Call locates.
- Provides utility crews with current utility location and facility information.
- Assists in the coordination of the review and processing of design plans and related documents for issuance of construction, right-of-way use, clearing and grading, stormwater, waste disposal and other Engineering permits submitted by private developers, contractors and internal departments.
- Assists in the coordination of Public Works reviews and comments on development permit applications.
- Assists with the preparation and maintenance of accurate records of street, stormwater, water, and sanitary sewer system improvements for incorporation into the Citys mapping GIS database.
- Assists in the calculation of LID, latecomer, connection and system development fees.
- Maintains records regarding LID, ULID and Developer Reimbursement Agreements.
- Coordinates/performs field inspections of permit related activities, temporary erosion and sedimentation control measures, clearing and grading projects, stormwater facilities, infrastructure repairs, water main pressure and bacterial testing, routine public/private engineering construction projects, and site reviews with field crews
- Computes and compiles survey data from field survey notes.
- Assists with field survey work related to data collection and construction staking.
- Responds to public inquiries from external and internal customers.

- Investigates reported illicit discharges to the Citys stormwater system.
- Computes and compiles survey data from field survey notes; corrects, updates and extends city mapping.
- Assists with field survey work related to data collection and construction staking.
- Assists in the preparation of working drawings, plans, specifications, and estimates for sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water lines, street improvements, solid waste facilities, buildings and other similar projects.
- Assists with construction management and inspection of Public Works construction projects.
- Reviews permit applications and development plans and specifications for compliance with Urban Services Standards & Guidelines, and ADA standards
- Assists in the preparation of working drawings, plans, and estimates for sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water lines, street improvements, solid waste facilities, buildings and other similar projects.
